Funding Opportunities
The Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation (OVPRI) offers guidance and support for researchers in identifying potential funding sources and with the application process. Faculty members in all departments are encouraged to contact the listed Grants/Contract Officer or Innovation Advisor (opens in new window) for more information pertaining to a specific program.
We provide the following services:
- Advice and guidance on research grant proposal preparation.
- Substantive / technical review of proposal drafts and applications.
- Facilitation of interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships.
- Information regarding signature requirements for proposal submissions.
- Assistance with budget development.
Workshops are held by the OVPRI throughout the year to provide updates on funding agencies, funding and proposal development, and more. Check News and Events (opens in new window) for more details on upcoming events.
Some agencies have a postmarked deadline, while others have a due date by which the application must be received by the agency. The OVPRI deadline for internal review and to obtain any required signatures is two weeks prior to the agency deadline.
The COS Pivot Database
The COS Pivot Database is free for all TMU researchers and is the largest searchable database in the world for researchers looking for funding opportunities and potential collaborators. Built in collaboration with more than 260 leading research universities, government agencies, and other R&D organizations from around the world, COS Pivot continues to expand internationally and seeks to include all disciplines in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

External Funding Opportunities
The list provided below is not inclusive of all funding opportunities. If you require information or assistance for a competition or opportunity not listed below, please contact Richard McCulloch, Executive Director, Research Services.
Our internal deadline to submit applications/proposals for review and signature is two weeks prior to the sponsor deadline.
As of December 4, 2023, Canadian researchers are considered “associate country participants” within Pillar II of Horizon Europe (external link, opens in new window) , the EU's key funding program for research and innovation. Pillar II is primarily focused on tackling major, shared global challenges, including climate, energy, digital economy, and health, and addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pillar II: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness is the largest collaborative part of the Horizon Europe program, with a budget of approximately C$79.6 billion.
Canadian researchers can apply now as beneficiaries and receive grants directly from the European Commission (EC) once provisional application begins, likely in Q3 2024. Given application processing timeframes, Canadians are strongly encouraged to apply now to be considered in the 2024 review period.
Researchers interested in learning more about and applying for Horizon Europe Pillar II open calls can consult the current list of funding and tender opportunities (opens in new window) on the EU's Funding and Tenders Portal.
For any additional questions, please contact Richard McCulloch, Executive Director, Research Services.
