About the Board of Governors

The University is governed by the Senate (regarding academic matters) and the Board of Governors.  The board consists of members of the public and alumni, faculty, administrative staff and students.  As trustees, members make major administrative policy, staff and financial decisions about the university that have both immediate and long-term effects.  These decisions include the appointment of the President and the appointment of senior University officials on the recommendation of the President.  Trustees are vested with the responsibility of ensuring that future generations inherit a university that continues to be a great centre of advancement of applied knowledge and research to address societal need.

The members of the Board come from diverse backgrounds. Whether elected or appointed, the members of the Board are not advocates for any one constituency. All decisions of the Board are made in the best interests of the University.

Ryerson University is governed by the Ryerson University Act and the General By-Laws of Ryerson University.
