Chancellor, G. RAYMOND CHANG Ex-Officio
G. Raymond Chang has served on the Ryerson Board of Governors since 2001. On September 25, 2006 Mr. Chang was appointed the third Chancellor of Ryerson University for a three-year term and re-appointed for a second term in 2009. Mr. Chang is a champion of lifelong learning and was presented the Award of Recognition from the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education for his outstanding contributions to advancing educational opportunities for adult learners. He is a member of the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation and established a chair at the University of Toronto in internal medicine and a fellowship for West Indian doctors at the University Health Network. He has also been a generous benefactor of continuing education and young adult learning in the Caribbean, particularly of St. George's College, his alma mater high school in Jamaica and the University of the West Indies. He is a Governor of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and recently made a significant contribution to the Museum. In 2009 he made an extraordinary gift to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). In August 2011 the Government of Jamaica conferred the honour of the Order of Jamaica on G. Raymond Chang.

Chair, PHYLLIS YAFFE Board Appointee
Phyllis Yaffe is Chair of the Board of Directors of Cineplex Entertainment and Lead Director on the Board of Torstar Corporation. She is also a member of the Board of Astral Media Inc. and Lionsgate. One of her numerous community appointments include Chairperson, Women Against Multiple Sclerosis. Ms. Yaffe is the former Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. She was selected as the Canadian Women in Communications 1999 Woman of the Year and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television in 2000. Ms. Yaffe was appointed to the Ryerson Board of Governors in 2005, was elected Vice Chair of the Board in 2007 and Chair of the Board in 2010.

Vice Chair, NADIR MOHAMED Government Appointee
Nadir Mohamed is President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Communications Inc. Previous to this he was President and Chief Operating Officer of the Communications Group of Rogers Communications Inc. and before that President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Wireless. Before joining Rogers he held senior roles at Telus Communications and B.C.Telecom. Mr. Mohamed is on the Board of Rogers Communications and TD Financial Group as well as a member of the Young Presidents' Organization. He was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2007 and re-appointed for a second term in 2010. In November 2011 he was appointed Vice Chair of the Board of Governors. |

Sheldon Levy is President and Vice Chancellor of Ryerson University. He received a master's degree in Mathematics and a Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from York University. Previous post-secondary appointments include Vice President, Finance and Strategy, University of Ontario Institute of Technology; Vice President, Government and Institutional Relations, University of Toronto; President, Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology; and Vice President, Institutional Affairs, York University. MOHAMMAD AL ZAIBAK Government Appointee
Mohammad Al Zaibak is the President and CEO of CDM Information Inc. He was appointed to Ryerson's Board of Governors in 2010 for a three-year term. Mohammad was the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of several information technology-based companies, and was the principal private-sector architect and co-founder of Teranet Inc. He sits on the boards of Waterfront Toronto, the Canadian Centre for Diversity, the Mosaic Institute and is a founding luminary and director of Luminato. He is a former director of Teranet Inc., Teramira Holdings Inc., and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In 2002, he was awarded the Commemorative Medal for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee in recognition of his significant contribution to Canada, his community and his fellow Canadians. |
POURIA ATAEI Elected by Alumni
Pouria Ataei was elected to Ryerson University's Board of Governors in 2011 for a three year term. Mr. Ataei graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Pouria received an award of academic excellence from Ryerson University. He then pursed his master degree in Medical Physics and Radiation Sciences at McMaster University, where he was elected as the graduate student representative on McMaster's Board of Governors. He also held a seat on the Finance Committee of McMaster University. Pouria Ataei is a co-founder of Advanced Education, a non-profit organization which trains Canadian high school Students to become leaders of tomorrow. |
JACK COCKWELL Government Appointee
Jack Cockwell was re-appointed to the Ryerson Board of Governors in 2005 and was appointed Vice Chair from 2006-07. In 2009 he was re-appointed to a second three-year term. He previously served on the Board from 1995 to 2001. In June 2001 he received a Doctor of Laws, (honoris causa) from York University and in June 2004 he was awarded a Doctor of Commerce, (honoris causa) from Ryerson University. In 2009 he was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Cockwell is Group Chairman of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. and serves in a voluntary capacity on a number of community organization boards including the Royal Ontario Museum, Trails Youth Initiatives and Waterfront Toronto. He has also chaired the Building Fundraising Committee for the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education and Ryerson's Real Estate Advisory Committee.

JOCELYNE CÔTÉ-O'HARA, C.M. Government Appointee
Jocelyne Côté-O'Hara is President of The CORA Group, a strategy and communication consultancy. She was the Founding President and CEO of Stentor Telecom Policy Inc., a telecom alliance company. Ms. Côté-O'Hara was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2005, re-appointed for a second three-year term in 2008 and a third three-year term in 2011. She has held several senior posts in both the public and private sector and currently serves on a number of corporate and community boards including Manitoba Tel, Xerox Canada, The BEST Fund, MITACS (NCE) and the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada. She was recently appointed to the RCMP Reform Implementation Council and the Internal Audit Committee of the Federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner. Ms Côté-O'Hara has received the Award for Excellence from the International Association of Business Communicators and was named Woman of the Year by Canadian Women in Communications. Ms. O'Hara was named a member of the Order of Canada on December 30, 2011. |

Cathy Faye holds a BAA from Ryerson University and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University. She was re-elected for a second term to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2010. Ms. Faye is currently the Director of Academic Administrative Services for the Yeates School of Graduate Studies and was formerly Chair of the Graduate Studies Group, Ontario University Registrar’s Association (OURA), Member of the Executive Committee (OURA); Professional Development Coordinator, Ontario Home Economic Association; member of the Joint Union-Management Committee on Work and Family, Ryerson University; member of the Joint Union-Management Committee on Job Evaluation, Ryerson University. MITCH FRAZER Government Appointee Mitch Frazer is a Partner and Head of the Pension and Employment Group at Torys LLP. He was appointed to Ryerson’s Board of Governors in 2012 for a three year term. Mitch is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Vice-Chair of the North York General Hospital Foundation Board of Governors, a member of the Toronto French School Finance Committee and a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Ontario Science Centre. In 2008 he was named by Lexpert Magazine as one of Canada's leading lawyers under 40, in 2010 he was the recipient of Precedent Magazine’s Precedent Setter Award and Wilfrid Laurier University’s MBA Outstanding Executive Leadership Award and in 2011 he was the recipient of the North York General Hospital Foundation Chair’s Award and the University of Western Ontario Law School’s Ivan Rand Alumni Award. |

BRANKA HALILOVIC Elected by Staff
Branka Halilovic is the Academic Services Manager at Computing and Communications Services (CCS). She was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2011. Ms. Halilovic provides a strong role in Project Management, Change Management and Communications Management. Ms. Halilovic is a Project Management Professional and a member of many professional organizations including Educause, Project Management Institute and Women’s Executive Network. She is the President of the Board of Directors at the Swansea Kids Place. In 2005, Ms. Halilovic was awarded the PACE award from Teranet Inc. in recognition of her professionalism, attitude, cooperation and effort. |

Osman Hamid is second year MBA student. He was elected to the Board of Governors in 2011 for a one year term. He will also be the Graduate Executive Committee Chairperson for the 2011-2012 academic year and representing more than 2000 graduate students on the Ryerson Students Union Board of Directors. He has previously held active positions on many student groups including the Muslim Students Association and the Ryerson Commerce Society. |
CHRISTOPHER HILKENE Board Appointee
Christopher Hilkene is the President of Hilkene International Policy, a niche public policy consultancy in Toronto. He was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2008 and re-appointed for a second three year term in 2011. Mr. Hilkene is a member of numerous community organizations and has served on many non-profit boards and committees including Pollution Probe, the Clean Water Foundation, the George and Helen Vari Foundation, the Ontario Environmental Industry Association, Riversides Foundation and the City of Toronto’s Task Force to Bring Back the Don. He also serves as an advisory board member of Green Living Enterprises. He was a policy advisor to a former federal Minister of the Environment and in 2007 was appointed to the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy. Mr Hilkene also teaches environmental policy at York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies.

TRACY LEPARULO Elected by Students
Tracy Leparulo is a 4th year Business Management student, majoring in Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship. She was elected to the Board of Governors in 2011 for a one year term. It is her second term as President of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Ryerson. She is an executive of the Ryerson Entrepreneurship Institute, the only student representative on the Ryerson Digital Media Zone Steering Committee, and on the planning committee for the Maple Leaf Gardens. She was selected as a Forward 50 student as part of the Ted Rogers Leadership Center, and is leading the Careers and Development and Employment Partnership Referendum in the Ted Rogers School of Management. Tracy actively works with and advocates for the autism community, in addition to starting several entrepreneurial ventures. |
MICHELE MAHEUX Government Appointee
Michèle Maheux is the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for TIFF and has been with the organization for more than two decades. She has been a driving force within TIFF and is responsible through the Vice-Presidents for all business and operations of the $33 million cultural organization. Maheux’s leading priorities are the organization's operational needs and plans, including key operational activities in TIFF Bell Lightbox, the new year-round home for the organization. With nearly 30 years of work experience in the cultural arena for private and governmental organizations, Maheux has accrued a wealth of knowledge and experiences in the film and television sectors. She worked in the distribution and exhibition fields of the film industry and established her own consulting company - MMM Marketing - which specialized in corporate communications and marketing. As Assistant to the Director of the library at the Canadian Film Institute (CFI) in Ottawa, she worked with Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, marking the beginning of their 30-year collaboration, which continues today. Maheux has been a member of many provincial, municipal, and arts organizations’ committees for tourism and public relations professionals during her tenure at TIFF. She has served for the past two years as a jury member for the Women in Film & Television - Toronto (WIFT-T) Kodak New Vision Mentorship Award, and was a member of the 2011 Playback Hall of Fame Advisory Committee. In December 2008, Maheux was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Finance Committee. She was re-appointed in 2011 for another three-year term. |

RENA MENDELSON Elected by Faculty
Professor Mendelson received her MS from Cornell University and DSc from Harvard University. She was elected to the Board of Governors in 2009 for a two year term and re-elected to a second term in 2011. She recently completed a term as the Director of the Graduate Program in Nutrition Communication. Previously Professor Mendelson had served as Associate Vice President Academic and Dean of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University. She has served on a number of external Boards most notably as Chair of the Board National Institute of Nutrition (2003-2005); Chair of Board of the Canadian Council of Food and Nutrition (2004-2006); Board of Obesity Canada; Canadian Obesity Network (Nutrition Section Head); Council of Ontario Universities, Executive Committee (1993-6) Transitional Council of the College of Dietitians of Ontario (1992-4). Professor Mendelson is also involved in an advisory capacity with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the National Institute of Medicine. Professor Mendelson received the Ryerson University Teaching Excellence Award in 2006 and the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2008. |

KAAMRAN RAAHEMIFAR Elected by Faculty Kaamran Raahemifar joined Ryerson in 1999, and is currently a Professor in Electrical & Computer Engg. Dept. at Ryerson University. He was elected to Ryerson's Board of Governors in 2011 for a two year term. In addition to serving on the Board, he is serving in the Senate as of 2010 for a two-year term. ATIFA RASOUL Elected by Alumni
Ms. Rasoul is a Financial Analyst at Canadian Tire Corporation. She graduated from Ryerson University in 2008 and received a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management with a double major in Accounting and Finance. As an undergraduate Ms. Rasoul has held various leadership positions while at Ryerson, most notably as President of the Accounting Society. Ms. Rasoul received the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award and has served on Senate 2009-2011 as an Alumni Representative. Ms. Rasoul is also on the Board of Directors at the Islamic Community of Afghans in Canada. |
BOB RICHARDS Government Appointee
Robert Richards is the retired former President and Chief Executive Officer of the William Osler Health Centre. Prior to his role in provincial healthcare Robert was the province's first CEO of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. Robert has also been Senior Vice-President of Laidlaw Ltd. Responsible for all Canadian operations and the Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. Mr Richards has previously served on boards for the City of Toronto , Arts Toronto, and Northern Ethanol. He was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2007 and re-appointed for a three-year term in 2010.

HARRY ROSEN Government Appointee
Harry Rosen is the Executive Chairman of Harry Rosen Inc. Mr. Rosen has been very involved in community service over the years and currently serves on the Board of Governors of Mt. Sinai Hospital. Mr. Rosen is on the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Campaign Cabinet and also the Advisory Board of the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Mr. Rosen was formerly on the Board of Governors of the University of Western Ontario. In 2003 he was awarded an Honourary Doctorate in Commerce from Ryerson University and was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2004. He was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2007 and re-appointed in 2010 for a three-year term.

LIANA SALVADOR-WATTS Elected by Students
Liana Salvador-Watts is in her 4th year of the Collaborative Nursing program. Elected to the Board for the 2011-12 year, she has also been a representative of Ryerson’s Senate for the past 2 years, where she currently sits on the Academic Governance and Policy Committee. She served two terms as the Vice-President Education of the Ryerson Students’ Union, where she advocated for student rights and access affordable to post-secondary education on a local, provincial and national scale. She was the 2009 recipient of the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing’s Martha J. McKeown Award for her commitment to social justice and feminism. She holds a passion for equity and women’s rights and is currently a volunteer at the Hassle-Free Women and Trans Clinic. |

FRANK SALVATI Elected by Alumni
Mr. Salvati is Chief Strategy Officer of Tri-Media Integrated Marketing Technologies Inc. He was re-elected for a second term to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2010. Before joining his present company he held various positions, most notably: Chief Financial Officer of Silver Eagle Mines Inc. (TSX: “SEG”); Chief Financial Officer and Director of TVN Niagara Inc.; Chief financial Officer of Ontario Hydro & Energy and Communications (a subsidiary of Hydro One Inc.); a Pearson International Airport Dispute Resolution Team Member; a Skydome Restructuring Team Member; and Chief Financial Officer of Mirage Ontario Inc. Previously, in public accounting practice, he specialized in income taxation, forensic auditing, then real estate consulting. Mr. Salvati was a past committee member of the Risk Management/Quality Control Committee of Northwestern General Hospital. Mr. Salvati has received a CMC, CDir, MBA, CFE, CPA, CA, and BBM. |

DAVID VALLIERE Elected by Faculty
David Valliere is Associate Professor and Chair of the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Department at the Ted Rogers School of Management. He has a Master's degree in engineering and MBA and PhD degrees in business, and is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario. He was elected to the Board of Governors in 2010 for a two-year term. Dr. Valliere is Director of the Entrepreneurship Research Institute and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Ryerson Entrepreneur Institute. He is a skilled teacher, winning prestigious teaching awards at Ryerson and at York University, and a prolific researcher of the social and economic impact of entrepreneurship and the operation of venture capital and private equity markets. Prior to joining Ryerson in 2004 Dr. Valliere worked in the telecommunications and software industries, in a variety of senior investment roles in the financing of high-tech companies, and as a Director of several public and private technology-based firms. |
