User-FocusWe engage you to define success. Read More We shine the light on the people who use Ryerson’s facilities and services. This means engaging with and listening to the individuals and groups who will be affected and benefit by innovations. For example, the E-mail and Collaborative Tools Project involved transparent consultation across the university and served as a role model for other solutions-oriented multi-stakeholder initiatives. And we are glad to welcome Balzac’s – a locally-owned café – to the Image Arts Building. That’s part of our initiative to provide Ryersonians and the wider community with more convenient food-services options.
ExecutionWe get the job done. Read More We get things done through high-quality project execution. Ryerson’s capital projects, such as the new Student Learning Centre, are the most visible of these efforts. But first-rate execution also entails ensuring compliance with a complex and ever-changing regulatory and legislative environment (e.g., Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act) and minimizing risk to our university.

CollaborationWe are a team and we build cross-functional teams from across the university. Read More We can all accomplish more by sharing information and working in a collegial, mutually supportive fashion. Members of the Administration and Finance Management Group therefore work as a team, and we also support cross-functional collaborations throughout Ryerson. Last year, for example, our Campus Facilities & Sustainability crew was proud to support the efforts by a group of School of Nutrition students who created the Ryerson HomeGrown Community Garden on Gould Street.
InnovationWe develop solutions where none exist. Read More We strive to transcend conventions and habits in order to find solutions that benefit the Ryerson community as well as the people who live and work in the heart of our city. The partnership with MPI to build a much-needed new student residence on Jarvis Street, for example, is a first in the Ontario university sector. It’s also a unique business model that has post-secondary institutions across North America clamouring to learn how we did it.

RespectWe value all members of our community. Read More We value all members of the Ryerson community. We believe that each individual matters not only for their public identity – for example, student, staff member or faculty – but also as a person who is unique and worthy of respect. The Positive Space Ryerson coalition and the Black History Awareness Committee are powerful manifestations of this principle.
CommunicationWe talk about what we’re doing, how and why. Read More It’s essential to tell Ryerson’s story to all our publics, to ensure the easy availability of clear and reliable information and to talk openly about what we’re doing, how we’re working and why we are implementing changes. The new Human Resources website is one example of our commitment to transparent communication. So, too, are Financial Services’ annual reports to the university community.

IntegrityWe are honest, reliable and fair. Read More We are honest, reliable and fair, and we believe it is essential that Ryerson is a high-engagement, diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace – a best-in-class employer. The university’s People First Strategy – which encompasses students, faculty and staff – is one of the most dynamic expressions of this commitment.
Diversity, Equity & InclusionWe practice, champion and advance diversity, equity and inclusion. Read More We practise, champion and advance these principles in order that everyone at Ryerson has the capacity to reach their full potential. The Access Ryerson Project is one notable example of these values in action. Led by a cross-university committee, its vision is to embrace the spirit of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and to position Ryerson as an accessibility leader.
