Vice President, Research and Innovation
Dr. Tas Venetsanopoulos joined Ryerson Oct. 1, 2006 in the new position of Vice President Research and Innovation.
Dr. Venetsanopoulos is an outstanding and internationally recognized researcher, scholar, professor, consultant and widely-published author in the field of electrical engineering. For the past five years, he has been Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto.
As Vice President of Research and Innovation, Dr. Venetsanopoulos will oversee Ryerson's domestic and international research and related activities, the Office of Research Services and Ryerson International. The appointment is for a five-year term effective October 1, 2006.
Dr. Venetsanopoulos received his bachelors of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTU), and his MS, M.Phil, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Yale University. He joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at U of T in 1968, and became Dean of the Faculty in 2001. Under his leadership, the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at U of T saw significant growth in research funding, research capacity and profile, and scholarship funding for graduate students; improved technology transfer; and enhanced entrepreneurship.

Research Development - Assists faculty members in securing and managing grants and contracts in support of research. In addition, ORS provides support for Technology Transfer activities.
Ryerson International - Assists the Ryerson community in creating and sustaining international initiatives in the areas of mobility, research, services and creative activity.
Research Integrity and Planning - Responsible for the review of research involving humans, animals and controlled goods.
The Vice President, Research and Innovation also chairs the Scholarly, Research and Creative Activity Committee and the Scholarly, Research and Creative Activities Representatives Group and receives advice and recommendations on research integrity issues from the Scholarly, Research and Creative Integrity Advisory Committee.
