Research Ethics

Controlled Goods

Ryerson researchers undertaking research involving controlled goods must conform to the federal Controlled Goods Regulations (CGR) and the federal Defence Production Act (DPA) as enforced by the Controlled Goods Directorate (CGD).

All research involving controlled goods, whether funded or not, conducted within the University or by faculty, staff, or students affiliated with the University must be reviewed and authorised under the Controlled Goods Regulations. In addition, security assessments are required as part of the process with the consent of the applicant.

The Controlled Goods Directorate now offers an online E-Learning module relating to the Controlled Goods Program. The Office of the Vice President, Research and Innovation strongly recommends that this module be completed by prospective applicants prior to applying for clearance under the Program.

The Controlled Goods program at Ryerson University is a joint initiative of the Office of the General Counsel & Secretary of the Board of Governors, the Human Resources Department, the Centre for Environmental Health & Safety Management, and the Office of the Vice President, Research and Innovation.

Please contact Kendra Smith, Interim REB Coordinator, by phone 416-979-5000 ext. 7521 or by e-mail:  Kendra.Smith@ryerson.ca for additional information before proceeding.
