Academic Integrity

Intellectual freedom and honesty are essential to the sharing and development of knowledge. All members of the Ryerson community must exhibit integrity in their teaching, learning, research, evaluation, and personal behaviour.

Ryerson has developed an Academic Integrity website for students, which has valuable information that includes tutorials and quizzes to help you learn about Ryerson’s academic expectations. These expectations may be very different from what you have been exposed to elsewhere, so please take the time to familiarize yourself: www.ryerson.ca/academicintegrity

Below is a list of behaviours (as outlined in detail in Senate Policy 60) that have a negative impact on academic integrity and if engaged in, could have academic and standing consequences:

  • Plagiarism
  • Cheating
  • Misrepresentation of personal identity or performance
  • Submission of false information
  • Damaging or Tampering with the Scholarly Environment
  • Contributing to Academic Misconduct
  • Unauthorized Copying or Use of Copyrighted Materials
  • Violations of Departmental Policies on Professional Behaviour

It is your responsibility to know Ryerson’s expectations with regards to academic integrity and to abide by the rules.  Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.
