Activating Your Online Identity

Welcome to Ryerson's online identity activation service.

In order to use many of Ryerson's online services such as E-mail, the my.ryerson.ca portal and learning system, Ryerson's Administrative Management Self Service (RAMSS), or central computer labs, you must activate your online identity by completing a series of web forms. During the activation process, you will obtain a user name and set your initial password.

There are several screens in the Online Activation Form, that require you to provide information such as your student and/or employee number. You must complete all web forms to successfully activate your online identity(ies) so you can log into the labs, E-mail, other servers, and the Student Web Server.

You may start at any time after you are eligible; for example, after you have been hired by Ryerson, admitted to a degree program, or if you have enrolled in continuing education courses on or after April 1, 2004.

We strongly recommend that you read the Online Identity FAQ below before you start.

To start activation, please fill in the Activation Form.

The Activation form is not available between 2:20 AM - 5:30 AM (Eastern Time) daily and every Friday between 6:00 AM - 8:00 AM for maintenance.

Online Identity FAQ

Am I eligible for a Ryerson University online identity?
You are eligible if you are a registered Ryerson student, including all undergraduate or graduate students or have been admitted to a degree program, are employed by Ryerson, or if a special arrangement for you has been made. This also includes continuing education students who were registered in a course on or after April 1, 2004.

What does this online identity give me access to?
At a minimum, you can login to the my.ryerson.ca portal to access various services, which include student online registration via RAMSS, and any of the computers in Ryerson's central computer labs (for example in the Library and KHW71).

What other services are available?
Computing resources are available to members of the Ryerson community based on their role. Examples of roles include Student, Instructor, Staff, and Visiting Scholar. Some resources are available because they are required by certain courses or programs. For example: some UNIX server accounts are available to students enrolled in courses requiring access.

All employees and registered students are eligible for E-mail.

Students have access to online courses within the http://my.ryerson.ca portal only if their courses have an online component, or if the courses are Internet-based or classroom/Internet-based. If you are not sure if your course is online ask your professor.

What information do I need to activate my identity?
Before you fill in the activation form please make sure you know your student number or employee number, your date of birth, and the first and last name you supplied to Ryerson University.

Is it safe to give my employee/student number online via this form?
Yes. This form sits on a secure server at Ryerson and all content is encrypted.

Who do I contact if I have problems with activation?
If you have any questions or experience problems activating your account at any time throughout the process, click on the Activation Problem Form (located at the bottom of each activation screen). Make sure that you enter accurate information (E-mail, operating system, and browser) and a detailed description of your problem/question in the comments box in order for us to better assist you.

Please note: If for any reason you only partially complete this form make sure you shut down your browser. If you walk away from a public or shared computer without finishing the four identity activation steps in full, someone else may sit down, complete your form, and enter a password for you on the final screen. This will mean someone else can use your online identity!
