How to Activate Your Online Identity

In order to use many of Ryerson's online services such as E-mail, the my.ryerson.ca portal and learning system, Ryerson's Administrative Management Self Service (RAMSS), Stuudent Web Server, or central computer labs, you must activate your online identity. During the activation process, you will obtain a user name and set your initial password. If you require additional information before proceeding, please see http://www.ryerson.ca/accounts.

You must complete all web forms to successfully activate your online identity(ies).

There are two ways to activate:

  1. Using a Computer Lab

In any Academic Computing Lab at Ryerson, locate an available Windows machine and press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys simultaneously to bring up the first prompt, which asks you for your user name and password. Enter register in the user name and password fields. Click on the OK button. A screen with instructions on how to activate your account appears. When you're done activating, click the Log Out button on the upper right corner of the screen or press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys and click Log Off button.

  1. Access the Account Activation Form from any computer connected to the Internet.

During the activation process you will be able to select your user name, known as my.ryerson user name. As a student or faculty/staff, the my.ryerson user name and password allow you to access:

  • RMail (mail.ryerson.ca)
  • my.ryerson Portal and learning system
  • RAMSS (via my.ryerson.ca)
  • Central Computer Labs including Library and KHW71

Your E-mail address at Ryerson will be your username@ryerson.ca, where username is your my.ryerson user name. Commit your my.ryerson user name and password to memory. For security reasons do not write down your password.

**Please Note: If for any reason you only partially complete this form - make sure to shut down your browser. If you walk away without finishing the four screens in full, someone else may sit down, complete your Form and enter a password for you on the final screen. This will lock you out of your own account!

Your account is activated and ready to use within 24 hours. In many cases your account is available after an hour or two. At the beginning of each term a high number of account activations occur. At this time, leave at least 24 hours between the time you activate your account(s) and the time you first really need to access it.

If you have any questions or experience problems activating your account at any time throughout the process, click on the Activation Problem Form (located at the bottom of each activation screen). Make sure that you enter accurate information (E-mail, operating system, and browser) and a detailed description of your problem/question in the comments box in order for us to better assist you.
