My Ryerson Accounts

Your Online Identity is your key to access useful resources at Ryerson. In this section you can find out more about your Online Identity:

Before you can use any of Ryerson's central computing resources such as RMail (Ryerson E-mail), the my.ryerson Portal, or a workstation in the central computer labs, you must do two things:

  1. Get your Online Identity (user name and password) when you first arrive at Ryerson.
  2. Identify yourself, with your user name and password, every time you access a computer workstation, RMail, or other resources.

As part of your online identity you are provided with a unique name you use to log in with. All central computing systems prompt you for a user name and password before letting you use them. If you don't already know your user name, you will find it out during the initial activation procedure. During the activation procedure you will also set your initial password.

Systems that require the use of user names and passwords include:

All the central computer labs - including over 400 Windows 7 workstations available for drop-in access - require you enter a user name and password before they can be used. Accounts on these systems are available to all Ryerson students.

mail.ryerson.ca (RMail) is Ryerson’s main E-mail system and is available to all Ryerson students, staff and instructors. It is the largest and most heavily used system. Reading and sending E-mail can be done in two ways. A mail program on a workstation/PC such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook can be used or a web browser can access the mail system via the web. Password changes, mail forwarding, and quota checks can be done through the web. Both the web interface and E-mail software such as Mozilla Thunderbird require a user name and password to retrieve and send your mail from the system. The central computer labs have only web interface enabled.

my.ryerson.ca is Ryerson's Web Portal and learning system. It also provides access to RAMSS, Ryerson’s Administrative Management Self Service system, where you can check final grades and enroll in courses. Access to the my.ryerson.ca system is via the same user name and password you use to access E-mail.

malthus.acs.ryerson.ca, is a UNIX server dedicated to providing statistics applications and research datasets. Access is available for students who are taking specific courses.

turing.acs.ryerson.ca is a UNIX server that hosts a number of programming languages and the DB2 and Oracle relational database management systems. Access is available for students who are taking specific courses.

snapper.dcn.ryerson.ca is a UNIX server that provides web application development services including the ability to write CGI programs in Perl and other languages. Snapper is also designed to run computer-intensive engineering and GIS applications. Access is available for students who are taking specific courses.

All full-time day students and part-time degree students may also request an account on Ryerson's Student Web Server, http://stw.ryerson.ca.  Continuing Education students are granted access to the Student Web Server if a course requires it. Please review How to Get an Account on Student Web Server section of this guide.

Department and faculty pages are located on a separate server at http://www.ryerson.ca. Faculties and departments also operate computing resources that may require the use of a user name and password. Please contact your department for information on accessing departmental or faculty computing resources.

Students using accounts provided by Ryerson MUST adhere to Ryerson's Student Computing Guidelines. The guidelines are reproduced in this guide in their entirety. Please read them carefully.
