Online Courses

The my.ryerson Portal accesses the Blackboard Learning Management System which allows professors to create an online component to post class material and announcements to students, however not all instructors choose to put their courses online. The courses you are enrolled in that have an online component will be listed under the my.ryerson and the online courses & organizations tabs in the Web Portal (Fig. 1). If you do not see the courses listed that you were expecting, check the student help section at:

Features of Online Courses

Each individual instructor customizes their online courses, selecting the tools that best suit the needs of the course. Some of the tools and features listed below may be enabled within your online courses.

Online Course Features

Course Documents

Contains the majority of your course content, such as readings and lecture notes.


Used to post the dates and times of important course-related events, such as exams, live chats or due dates.


Includes time-sensitive course information, such as a change in deadline or a reminder of an upcoming class chat.

Discussion Board

Allows you to post messages for everyone in your class. You may choose to use the Discussion Board to ask for clarification on assignments, facilitate debate on course-related issues, post relevant links, or to pose questions relating to course material, upcoming tests and exams.

Check Grades

Allows you to view your interim marks of your course assignments and tasks.
