Aerospace Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Science at Ryerson University is hosting an all-day event, The Ryerson University High School Rocket Competition, on Friday, May 18, 2012. The purpose of this event is to promote engineering design to high school students. The challenge of this year's competition is to build a pre-designed vehicle at your high school, and on the competition day, launch it on the University's Kerr Hall Quad field. The rocket vehicle which lands closes to the selected cone target on the Quad field will be declared the winner. The Rocket Competition encourages the use of math, basic engineering concepts, team work and manufacturing skills.
In addition to an overall winner, an award for best Appearance/Fabrication will also be awarded to a team which the judges have selected. Launch Facilities will be provided on site and approved rocket motors will be provided by the Department of Aerospace Engineering
The Awards are as follows:
First Place Plaque and $500 to be presented to the School and medals will be awarded to the students
Second Place Plaque and $300 to be presented to the School, medals will be awarded to the students
Third Place Plaque and $200 to be presented to the School, medals will be awarded to the students.
Best Appearance/Fabrication, medals will be awarded to the students.
The faculty members and students in the Department of Aerospace Engineering look forward to running the Rocket Competition this year. It is hoped that by doing so, it will contribute to the interest of high school students in math and science, as well as contribute to potential consideration of engineering as a career.
