RJAA hosts 3rd annual Coping with Anxiety seminar
On March 6, the RJAA held its third annual forum for graduating students on "Coping with Anxiety as the Real World Beckons". Professor Don Gibb moderated a panel of former students talking about their experiences of anxiety, uncertainty, fear, upheaval, rejection, adventure and decisions they had to make after leaving the university's cocoon.
More than 30 students attended the forum. The ex-students who had a lot of experiences to share were: Rob Granatstein '97, editor, The Toronto Sun; Megan Griffith-Greene '04, editor-in-chief of Shameless Magazine; Camille Ross '07, host of Guyana Beat on Rogers Television; and Graham Silnicki '07 from Toronto Life Magazine.
Among the issues they addressed: deciding on a job, what to do if you don't have a journalism job, managing your financial burden, leaving your friends and family, moving back home, facing an unplanned transition, lowering expectations, the competition for jobs, and coping with the reality of your first and second job going sour.
