Faculty of Arts
About Us
The Faculty of Arts comprises ten humanities and social science departments and plays a unique dual role in the University. The Faculty offers:
- undergraduate programs that combine a liberal arts education with Ryerson's brand of relevant, practical learning;
- graduate programs, at both the master's and doctoral levels, that have a strong component of scholarship, research, innovation and critical analysis;
- high quality arts-based education through liberal studies courses - that cut across all of Ryerson's degree program curricula, from Journalism to Engineering to Business. Liberal Studies challenge students' intellect and imagination, nurturing their ability to think critically and adapt to the accelerating pace of change in today's world.
The Faculty of Arts excels in different ways: through innovative programs, high-quality teaching, leading-edge research and scholarship, state-of-the-art technology and research laboratories, and responsive and relevant workshops and seminars.
- We educate students who will implement their skills and ideas in various branches of government, business, and industry. Three of our undergraduate programs - First Nations Public Administration, International Economics, and Arts and Contemporary Studies are cases in point.
- Arts' faculty have a reputation for excellence and innovation in teaching, research and scholarship.
- State-of-the-art technology, such as our geographic information systems (GIS), has been a tremendous benefit to undergraduate Geographic Analysis students and to graduate students in Spatial Analysis.
- Our Psychology Research and Training Centre provides postdoctoral fellows, Psychology graduate students, and senior Psychology undergraduate students with research laboratories dedicated to such areas as Anxiety Research and Treatment, Brain Imaging and Memory, Cognitive Neuroscience, Health, Infant Development, Media and Social Development, Music Cognition, Social Psychology, and more.
- The Faculty also offers responsive and relevant speakers, such as the Ethics at Ryerson Speaker Series, tackling some controversial topics that shed light on global issues of importance.
