January 9, 2012 | Staying Connected in a New Semester
Welcome to a New Year and new semester! With today’s start of courses, I wish everyone a smooth return to the classroom and to the many new faces encountered there—all eager to launch into exciting ideas and debates.
Staying Connected | In an effort to further enhance communications beyond omnipresent email and to ensure a vibrant connection among colleagues, students, and the broader community, we are exploring advanced uses of social media. Our Student Engagement Team has developed several platforms for connecting with arts students (Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ryerson-Faculty-of-Arts/94518973522; Art of Life Blog: http://ryersonartoflife.blogspot.com/; and Twitter: @RUFacultyofArts). Because such digital platforms are so crucial to generating news and interest, we are also working on a revamped Faculty of Arts website, and today I am launching a Dean of Arts twitter account (@RUDeanofArts) to report on new developments and engage in academic debate. I hope you’ll check in and follow the account.
Sharing Ideas | In order to capitalize on the potential of social media to connect people, I need your help. Please be sure to email any events, awards, research news, or interesting links from your corner of the Faculty to the new “nerve centre” for arts communications at: communications@arts.ryerson.ca.
Semester Ahead | We have a great many items on the Faculty of Arts radar this upcoming term which I look forward to discussing on this platform and on my new 140-character one. The semester holds much promise as we focus in on new classes, challenges, and as-yet unexplored opportunities. Thank you for everything you do in the classroom, the lab, the community, and many places in-between that help to make our Faculty shine at home and beyond.

Jean-Paul Boudreau
