Faculty of Arts
DEVELOPMENT – SUPPORTING THE FACULTY OF ARTS
Gifts can be made to the Faculty of Arts in several important areas:
- Student Awards
- Chairs and Professorships
- Special Projects
STUDENT AWARDS
The Faculty of Arts has no greater priority than our students. We are committed
to enhancing our pool of scholarships, bursaries, and awards to ensure that
every qualified student who wants a Ryerson education receives one. This support
recognizes outstanding achievement and assists deserving students at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels.
A generous program of scholarships, awards, and bursaries is fundamental to
the University's core values of ensuring everyone who deserves and wants an
education, gets it.
Scholarships – are given for academic merit
Awards – are given for both academic achievement and other criteria selected
by the donor, including financial need, community involvement, and contribution
to activities at the University
Bursaries – are given for demonstrated financial need
1. A gift or pledge may be directed to pooled award funds, endowed or expendable, in any of the Faculty of Arts program areas.
2. Gifts totaling a minimum of $5,000 may be used to create expendable awards named in honour or memory of an individual or organization. These awards are generally given out at a rate of $1,000/year until the funds are fully expended.
3. Gifts totaling a minimum of $25,000 may be used to create endowed awards that can be named in honour or memory of an individual or organization. These awards are given out according to Ryerson University policies, in perpetuity.
4. Matching funds opportunity: Gifts designated to endowed funds are currently eligible to be matched through the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS), a government initiative that matches each $1 gifted. OTSS funds apply only to awards with a financial need component. Matching funds are provided for cash gifts, and for pledged gifts as the pledges are paid.
