The Faculty of Arts is hosting Arteries '10, a conference where top-level undergraduates can present their research in a professional, academic setting. Fourteen students in various disciplines including midwifery, radio and television arts, criminal justice and finance are taking over Oakham Lounge today to present research papers. Any student from across the university can participate as long as the paper covers a topic taught in the Faculty of Arts. The aim is to promote undergraduate research, preparing students for graduate school and the workforce. [ full story ] |

Psychology professor Sohail Rashid has been chosen as a top 10 finalist in the annual contest, selected from a group of 332 nominees. TVO will air a video of one of Rashid's lectures on March 13 at 5 p.m. Viewers can then vote online or by phone. The winner will be announced April 17 with the winner's school receiving a $10,000 TD Insurance Meloche Mennox scholarship.

If you're taking part in Dr. Colleen Carney's research, sleeping is part of the job description.
She's looking at the links between insomnia and depression, and how teaching someone how to get a good night's sleep can help treat that depression. In Ryerson's new Sleep and Depression Lab, an Ontario first, Colleen and her graduate students are using cognitive behavioural therapy, a non-medicinal treatment, to help patients get some shut-eye. | Travelling with a Purpose - February 5, 2010 |
The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) team is on its way to Peru, setting out to help restore a school in the community of Urubamba. The students will be working with Nexos Voluntarios, a Peruvian non-profit organization and will be assisting in infrastructure initiatives. The team will eventually hike uphill to another mountain town to continue their volunteer efforts and learn about Peruvian culture.

History professor Arne Kislenko and film instructor David Langer are host and producer of a three-part National Geographic series called Everyday Life in the Bible, set to broadcast throughout North America in fall 2010. The two spent December in Israel filming the first two episodes. The series delves into the everyday life of the biblical era, from the birth of Jesus to the destruction of the second temple in 70 A.D.
