As the counsellor for the Faculty of Arts, Diana Brecher works with Arts students as well as other students in the university. Diana provides personal counselling and academic skills counselling and connects students with other supportive services within the University and the community. Diana is a clinical psychologist with over twenty years experience at Ryerson in the Center for Student Development and Counselling. In 1990 Diana was appointed adjunct faculty in the Counselling Psychology program at OISE/UT. More recently, Diana was appointed adjunct faculty in the Psychology Department at Ryerson, where she taught courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the PhD program.

Jill is a resource to students as they bridge their experiences in the classroom with the world around them through exchanges, volunteering and Service Learning. Before coming to Ryerson she was involved in rural development and non-formal education initiatives in Haiti and worked with YMCAs in Toronto and Beirut to develop Global Education and youth engagement programs. She has a B.A. in International Development Studies from the University of Guelph.

Ruth Frolic works with students in all Faculty of Arts’ programs as well as with other students in the University. Ruth holds a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology (OISE/UT), in addition to a Masters of Arts in English Literature (U of T). Before her arrival at Ryerson, Ruth worked both in an administrative and counselling capacity at other universities in Toronto, as well as in community development for the non- profit sector. She provides personal counselling, academic skills counselling, and referrals to other supportive services within the University and the community.

Marcia is the Director of the Student Experience Centre and is currently serving as the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs and Student Affairs, for the Faculty of Arts. She holds a PhD in Developmental Psychology from York University and is a Professor in the Psychology Department. As Associate Dean, she provides leadership and strategic planning for developing and implementing initiatives to enhance student engagement and experiential learning in the Faculty of Arts.

Alan works with staff, faculty, and students in the areas of experiential learning and student capacity-building. He has a PhD in Sociology and is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology. He works in the areas of theory, sexuality, and labour studies. As a Teaching Associate, Dr. Sears is an advocate for effective learning and teaching activities within the Faculty of Arts. He developed and supervises the Arts Teaching Assistant Development Program for new and returning Graduate Assistants and undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Ryerson's Faculty of Arts.

In his role as the Student Life Coordinator for the Faculty of Arts, Stephan Tang works with all students in the Faculty of Arts, as well as other students in the University. Stephan holds a Masters of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University (Woohoo LEADERSHIP!), a BA in Cross Disciplinary Studies from The University of Western Ontario ( he calls it his degree in everything but nothing in particular) and a Diploma in Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism from Humber College (he had dreams of opening his own resort in Trinidad and Tobago where he is from). Before joining the team at Ryerson, Stephan spent five years in Residence Life at Western and before that at Queen’s University. Most recently Stephan journeyed out West to participate in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics (ask him about this anytime!). He is very happy to be back at Ryerson and hopes to continue to build a strong community within the Faculty of Arts and looks forward to assisting you to get connected to your program, Faculty and Ryerson through events such as Enrollment and Orientation as well as other leadership opportunities. He hopes that you will stop by his office, POD 344 M (look for the shiny disco ball) soon.

Sonny Wong, M.Ed., is the Career Counsellor for Faculty of Arts students. He holds a Masters Degree in Adult Education/Counselling Psychology with a focus on Work and Career. With over eight years experience in career counselling, Sonny’s areas of interests are: transition from school to work, self assessment, career exploration, job search strategies for students seeking meaningful employment. His experience spans both academic and community settings working with various groups including youth, foreign trained professionals and women.
