Steps for New Faculty of Arts Students

The transition to university is an exciting time, but it can be a challenging time, too. There are a number of things you need to know and are able to do during the summer months, before classes formally begin in September, to make this transition as smooth as possible. Here are eight ways to prepare for the start of classes.

1. ACTIVATE YOUR RYERSON ONLINE ID!

Your Ryerson online ID gives you access to a variety of online resources including Ryerson Gmail, RAMSS, course registration, etc. You must activate your Ryerson online identity in order to participate in the Faculty of Arts Enrollment Workshop.

Visit the Ryerson CCS website for information on how to activate your online identity.

2. START THINKING ABOUT ELECTIVES.

You are required to follow the term-by-term requirements that have been developed specifically for students in your program. To learn more about Semesters 1 and 2 in your program, including required courses, your selection of elective courses, and course descriptions, link to your program's Enrollment Worksheet on the Enrollment Workshops website and carefully read the detailed information.

3. ATTEND YOUR PROGRAM'S ENROLLMENT WORKSHOP!

Attend the Enrollment Workshop for your program in August, and you will be guided through your first experience of course enrollment at Ryerson. You will learn how to select appropriate courses for your program and how to register for courses using Ryerson's Administrative Management Self Serve (RAMSS), your one-stop shop for just about everything you need to do online, such as viewing your academic, financial, and personal information at Ryerson. Link here for the date and time of the Enrollment Workshop for your program.

4. JOIN US FOR THE FACULTY OF ARTS ORIENTATION!

The Faculty of Arts Orientation provides new Faculty of Arts students with the opportunity to meet and engage with faculty, staff, and students and learn more about their program. The day will include an academic orientation specific to your program as well exciting events that you won't want to miss. The Faculty of Arts Orientation is mandatory for all new Faculty of Arts students.

5. STAY CONNECTED WITH THE FACULTY OF ARTS.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and The Art of Life blog. They are great ways to keep in touch with us, to find out what’s going on, and to learn more about our Faculty and students.

6. TOUR THE CAMPUS.

It’s a good idea to tour Ryerson before the first week of classes so that you are familiar with the campus. The Undergraduate Admissions Office offers campus tours Monday through Friday at 10am. You should pre-register for a tour online through the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

7. GET YOUR PUBLIC TRANSIT INFORMATION.

Luckily post-secondary students are eligible for a discounted TTC Metropass and GO Presto Card! Contact the Ryerson Student Union for more information about the discounted student TTC Metropass. Visit the GO Transit website for more information about the student Presto Card.

8. VISIT RYERSON'S NEW STUDENTS WEBSITE

Visit Ryerson's New Students website for additional information and other steps for new students to be ready for the start of classes.
