Effective Resumes for Business Students

Target Audience: 1st and 2nd year (but everyone is welcome!)
Workshop Description: Not sure where to start? During this interactive workshop, you will be introduced to the basics of North American resumes. This session will enable to effectively use your resume as a personal branding and self-marketing document. You will learn about the areas of resumes that are often under-sold, making sure that you highlight your transferable skills. This workshop will address questions for those looking to improve their resumes and those who are writing their resumes for the first time. You will be supported with developing parts of your own resume, including STAR accomplishment statements. (Please bring your current resume to this workshop!)

Who You Are Matters - Career Cycles

This experiential discovery process is designed to help participants get to know themselves better, to explore work and life ideas, and discover new ones. By playing a highly interactive discovery game with other like-minded people, participants identify unique abilities and learn from other people, recognize who and what influences them, and gain insight into the things that are most important.

Setting Personal Career Goals

Target Audience: 1st & 2nd year students (but everyone is welcome!)

Workshop Description: Goal setting is instrumental to success. This workshop will focus on helping you create realistic and attainable career goals that will guide the activities you partake in during your university career. You will be introduced to several goal formulation strategies, and methods to help keep you on track with your goals. This workshop is intended for students in their first and second years of study, but all students are welcome.

Networking for Business Students

Workshop Description: Networking can be intimidating, but with the right skills and strategies it doesn’t need to be. This workshop is intended to teach you not only how to make the most out of networking, but also how to enjoy the process. Throughout your time here at Ryerson University you will have several opportunities to network. The tips you learn in the workshop will help you succeed in these situations. Topics covered include four steps to remember when networking, the dos and don’ts of networking and many other tips.

The workshop will cover the dos and don’ts of interviewing and how you can leverage an interview to help set you apart from the competition.

Target Audience: all students

Workshop Description: Information interviews are a great way to learn about organizations and the industries they operate in. Information interviews are also a great way to network. The information you gain will be invaluable in helping guide decisions related to your career. However, information interviews are only as good as the insights you gain. This workshop is designed to teach you how to arrange & conduct information interview so that you gain valuable insights at the interview and leave a lasting impression on the organization’s representatives. Topics covered include how to go about asking for an information interview and the best questions to ask.
