INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Applicants who are seeking admission from institutions or locations outside of Canada should contact the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, 170 Research Lane, Guelph, Ontario, Canada N1G 5E2,
www.ouac.on.ca, for an OUAC 105F application form (see section on "How to Apply"). Application procedures will be provided with the application form. Candidates are strongly urged to request this information well in advance of March 1st. Ryerson programs begin in
September of each year only. Ryerson does not grant admission in the Winter (January) or Spring (May) terms.
All international students (except citizens of the United States, St. Pierre Miquelon and Greenland) are required to obtain both a Study Permit (Student Authorization) and Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) where applicable from a Canadian embassy or consulate in their home country prior to arriving in Canada. It is not possible to study in Canada with a Visitor Visa and it is not possible/recommended to change status from a visitor to a student when in Canada. The Ryerson Offer of Admission, proof of financial status, medical clearance and passport are required when applying for a student authorization.
Applicants are required to submit officially certified transcripts of all secondary and post-secondary studies directly to the Ryerson Office of Undergraduate Admissions and NOT to the OUAC. If the documents are in a language other than English, applicants must also include notarized literal English translations. (See section on "Submission of Documents".) Applicants who wish to be considered for Advanced Standing/Transfer Credit must also submit course descriptions/teaching outlines and grading schemes (in English). See sections on "ADVANCED STANDING" and "TRANSFER CREDIT".
Applicants from a country where English is not the first language, or where English is an official language but not the first language, are required to provide proof of English proficiency at a satisfactory level. Please refer to the "English Language" section which follows.
NOTES: 1) International applicants are not eligible to apply as mature students.
2) Studies taken to meet the academic admission requirements must be completed or in the process of being completed, at the time of the application submission.
International students are charged a different fee from Canadians, unless they qualify for an exemption based on their status. International students who qualify for international fee exemption are still required to obtain a Study Permit (Student Authorization) from Immigration Canada.
The following categories of international students may be exempt from the differential fee:
1. Those with diplomatic status in Canada.
2. Approved refugee claimants by the Government of Canada.
3. Dependents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
4. Spouses/dependent children of foreign workers in Canada.
To claim exemption, students must take their documentation to the Registration and Records Office when they register for their courses.
