COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
ACADEMIC DEFINITIONS
Prerequisite: Student must pass Course A before taking Course B.
Corequisite: Student must take Course A prior to or concurrently with Course B.
Precursor: Student must have taken Course A before taking Course B, but does not have to pass Course A before taking Course B; however, student must pass Course A to qualify for a Certificate, Diploma or Degree.
Course Hours: The hours associated with a given course may include not only lecture, seminar and laboratory hours but also hours that need to be timetabled in order to allocate resources for those taking the course for such activities as unsupervised studio and laboratory work, internship and independent study.
Course Numbers: Numbers that begin with a zero (i.e. ECE 012) are two-term courses, (Sept. - Apr.). Numbers that begin with a digit other than zero (i.e.
ECE 316) are one-term courses, (Sept. - Dec.).
Professional Studies: Studies that induce functional competence by presenting the knowledge and developing the skills characteristic of current practice in the career field.
Professionally Related Studies: Studies that develop an understanding of the theoretical disciplines upon which the career field is based, or which synthesize the diverse elements of professional study.
Liberal Studies: Studies that develop the capacity to understand and appraise the social and cultural context in which the graduate will work as a professional and live as an educated citizen.
Course Weight: A one-term course has a course weight of 1.00. A two-term course has a course weight of 2.00. Variances from the above will appear in the individual course descriptions.
Course Exclusion: Students may not enroll in a course which lists, as an exclusion, one which they are also taking or in which they have already obtained standing.
Faculty of Arts: Courses are indicated as follows, LL—Lower Level Liberal Studies, UL—Upper Level Liberal Studies, and PR—Professionally-Related courses.
