REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
All students in full- and part-time undergraduate degree programs (as well as Diploma in Arts students), are required to activate and maintain a Ryerson University central Matrix e-mail account, which shall be an official means by which they will receive University communications.
Procedures for student activation and use, as well as the Ryerson Student Computing Guidelines, are available on the Ryerson University Computing and Communication Services web site:
www.ccs.ryerson.ca/students. Under the section ‘Services’, select e-mail.
New students will be provided with detailed registration information outlining the procedures they must follow. General information on registration may be obtained from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions/Liaison/Curriculum Advising.
NOTE: Web registration is now active for all Part-time students. Please see
www.ryerson.ca/rows for registration procedures information.
1. (a) Currently Registered Students Information on future term(s) course offerings are mailed to students well in advance of the start of classes. Complete information on registration procedures will be supplied at that time.
(b) Inactive Students who have been approved into a part-time program must register in their program within three terms in order to receive information on future term(s) course offerings. Students who do not register in their program for three consecutive terms will be dropped from the program. Such students must re-apply for admission.
2 Course offerings in part-time programs will vary from term to term and year to year. Students should give special attention to course requisites when planning their studies. Further information on course sequencing is either outlined in the program outline section of this calendar or is available from the program department.
Students are academically and financially responsible for all courses and charges that accrue as a result of courses chosen during the Course Request period, or the Registration period, unless Registration and Records Services is notified in writing within University deadlines. Non-attendance/non-payment is not acceptable for the removal of courses, grades and fee charges.
3. Students who did not complete a Course Selection Form, and who return to register in the following Fall and Winter terms, will be charged a $50 Premium Registration fee and there is no guarantee that space will be available in courses. In addition, students with outstanding accounts from previous years may be prohibited from further registration, until satisfactory payment arrangements have been made.
4. Students are responsible for ensuring that the course(s) in which they register are correct and appropriate to their degree program and will meet the requirements for graduation. Students have full access to the Registrar’s Office website (
www.ryerson.ca/rows) to verify their courses and sections in which they are registered. It is the student’s responsibility to verify this information no later than the fifth week of classes. Students are required to make any necessary corrections with their program department within two weeks. A $100 (subject to change) Addition to Registration Record fee will be levied for each course or grade added to a student’s registration after the following dates: Fall term - October 31st, Winter term - February 28th. Students are academically and financially responsible for all courses on their course request, unless they make corrections by the designated deadline.
5. Students wishing to drop courses without academic penalty should do so by the appropriate deadline date as stated under the “Significant Dates” section of this Calendar. Drops can now be done directly on the web.
6. Students will obtain final grades at the end of term only for those courses in which they are officially registered. The onus is on the students to ensure that they are officially registered for courses being taken. A $15 search fee (subject to change) per course will be charged if students have not registered properly but have attended classes. There is no guarantee that grades will be found by this search.
7. Program Change/Course Substitution: Students are required to complete the curriculum for their program as set out in this calendar. Any requests for course substitutions or other modifications to program requirements must be approved by the chair of both the appropriate program and teaching department. Curriculum Substitution forms are available from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions/Liaison/Curriculum Advising. Failure to obtain written permission within the established deadline will result in ineligibility to graduate.
