CONTINUING EDUCATION DIVISION

The Continuing Education Division is Canada’s leading provider of university - based adult education. We extend learning opportunities to people who wish to continue their education, upgrade their professional skills or start a new career on a part-time basis. Programming strengths of the Division are reflected in our 70 plus certificate programs and more than 1,000 courses, seminars and workshops offered yearly in Arts, Business, Communication & Design, Community Services, Engineering and Applied Science and, in Information Technology Studies. Continuing Education instructors come from the University’s schools and departments, as well as from Toronto’s business, cultural, and academic communities. They bring professional experience and teaching expertise to the classroom.

Many of the courses offered through Continuing Education are degree credit and may be used for transfer credit/advanced standing, if admission is secured, to many of our part-time and full-time degree programs. All certificates require an academic background of OSSD with six OAC or Grade 12 U or M courses, or equivalent, or mature student status.

Continuing Education is committed to developing new delivery modes to increase the accessibility of our programs. We continue to respond to community needs by offering degree - level courses for nurses at regional access centres throughout Southern Ontario. The number of courses we offer during the Spring and Summer terms continue to increase and, in response to student demand, we have increased the number of week-long intensive courses and weekend programming.

Continuing Education has also been highly successful in developing corporate-university partnerships to enable the delivery of customized, degree - level education either within the workplace or on campus. Our Learning and Development team meets with external organizations to identify learning needs and develop creative, relevant educational opportunities.

Continuing Education students are important to the University and have access to the Ryerson Library, laboratories, and support services, including career planning and study skills workshops, career services workshops, the in-house services offered by the Career Centre, and tutor support. For those students who lack prerequisite requirements for admission to Ryerson degree or certificate programs, we offer many Academic Bridging Courses to enable upgrading in specific areas.
