UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM CALENDAR 2004-2005 | |||
APPLIED CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGYAdministered by the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Chemical Engineering
DEGREE: In the regular program: 8 four-month academic terms of study following Grade 12 U/M or OAC graduation. In the optional co-op program: 8 four-month academic terms of study and 5 four-month work terms following Grade 12 U/M or OAC graduation. The sequence of the academic and work terms for the co-op program is shown on the next page.
ADMISSION: O.S.S.D. with six Grade 12 U/M or OAC courses, including the following:
NEW CURRICULUM: Grade 12 U courses in: English, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U) and Advanced Functions and Introductory Calculus (MCB4U) with a minimum of 60 percent or higher in each of these courses.
OLD CURRICULUM: OAC courses in: English, Chemistry, Biology and Calculus with a minimum of 60 percent or higher in each of these courses.
NOTES:
1- ENG4U/EAE4U or English/Anglais OAC 1 is the preferred English.
2- Students are encouraged to include Grade 12 U/OAC Physics in their secondary school studies.
3- Ryerson will allow the mixing of U, M and OAC courses as applicable but comparable courses will not be double-counted. As well, Ryerson will not accept the “out of school” component of Grade 12 U/M co-op courses for admission consideration.
4- Subject to competition, candidates may be required to present averages/grades above the minimum.
Centennial College’s Biotechnology-Industrial Microbiology Diploma Graduates: The Department of Chemistry and Biology will accept graduates of the three-year Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Biotechnology-Industrial Microbiology Diploma into the Applied Chemistry and Biology degree program. A CAAT Diploma in Biotechnology-Industrial Microbiology with a minimum cumulative average of B+ (3.5) is required for admission consideration. Applicants will be evaluated on a competitive basis with all other applicants for advanced standing. The following 30 courses outline the recommended curriculum:BLG 340, BLG407, CHY142 (lecture only), CHY223, CHY242, CHY330, CHY331, CHY337, CHY344, CHY361, CHY362, CHY381, CHY382, CHY434, CHY449, MTH130, MTH230, MTH380, MTH480, PCS119, PCS219, two one-term Lower Level Liberal Studies, three one-term Upper Level Liberal Studies, four one-term Professional/Professionally-Related Electives. The Applied Chemistry and Biology Degree Program will determine the semester sequence of these course offerings.
