Ryerson’s Midwifery Education program is a baccalaureate degree that prepares students for a career in midwifery. Midwives provide primary care for women throughout pregnancy and birth as well as care for mother and child up to six weeks postpartum. Our program is offered in partnership with Ryerson, McMaster and Laurention Universities.
The curriculum includes courses from basic sciences, social sciences, health sciences, women’s studies, electives and clinical courses. Distance learning includes print-based courses, teleconference tutorials, and Web CT.
Ryerson Midwifery students may complete the program in four to seven years.
Periods of full-time participation are necessary for clinical placements.Graduates of the Ryerson Midwifery Education program, are eligible to apply for registration with the College of Midwives of Ontario and accept entry-level positions in Midwifery practices across Ontario. Our program graduates are also eligible for registration in other provinces and territories where Midwifery is recognized such as Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nunavut, Quebec and the Northwest Territories.
