DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGYThe Department of Psychology at Ryerson University offers a wide and dynamic selection of professionally-related and liberal studies courses in most programs at Ryerson, including the Continuing Education Division. The Psychology curriculum covers both the established areas of the discipline such as developmental psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, perception, mental health, gender and sexuality and, specialized and emerging areas such as community psychology, health psychology, psychology and the law, psychology of sport, psychology of belief and skepticism, stress and adaptation, and behaviour modification. Psychology courses encompass traditional and contemporary psychological theory, critical thinking, research methodology, and recent innovations in the science of Psychology. Several courses offer hands-on data collection opportunities both in class and in labs. The range of courses offered in Psychology are particularly relevant to students studying in such programs as Arts and Contemporary Studies, Early Childhood Education, Journalism, Nursing, Social Work and in several programs within the Faculties of Communication & Design, and Engineering and Applied Science.
The department offers a Minor in Psychology and a Certificate through the Continuing Education Division. The department is developing new courses and is in the planning stages of offering a Minor in Contemporary Science, a Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions and a program in Psychology.
