APPLICATION/SELECTION INFORMATION

Program Types

1. a) Grades-Plus Selective Admission Programs: For some of Ryerson’s programs, factors such as interviews, auditions/selection tests, essays, portfolios, etc., are considered in addition to grades in order to select candidates for admission. Specific information is located in the program details in this calendar. All candidates who are required to submit essays, letters of reference, portfolios, and/or other supporting material must do so directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Ryerson unless directed otherwise. Applications will not be considered complete until these are received. Essays, portfolios, letters of reference, and any other supporting material should include name, address, Student Reference Number and the name/program code of the program. The normal deadline for equal consideration is March 1st; however applications will be accepted after this date subject to space and competition. These programs (subject to change) are:

b) Grades Selective Admission Programs: Other Ryerson programs primarily use grades in the selection process. A listing of these programs are available from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or at www.ryerson.ca/ualca and then select "Non-Academic Criteria" from the "Admission Requirements" in the left menu.

Please note that Ryerson reserves the right to change these without notice.

2. Application decisions are based on the information available at the time of application review. Applicants must have, or be in the process of meeting the admission requirements for the program(s) of their choice at the time of application.

3. Admission requirements vary from program to program. Applicants may be required to submit grades above the minimum in prerequisite subjects as well as maintain averages higher than the published minimum. In the selection process, Offers are made to the best qualified candidates for Ryerson programs. Applicants, including those given an early or conditional Offer of Admission, are required to successfully complete all admission requirements by June 30, 2006. This will likely exclude (depending on the program and circumstances) the possibility of summer school, night school, and/or correspondence courses completed after this date. Summer school extensions are generally not granted for many programs.

If we consider extensions beyond June 30, requests for extensions beyond June 30, including summer school, night school, correspondence courses, etc., will only be accepted by e-mail, at the following e-mail address: xtension@ryerson.ca. Applicants who wish Ryerson to consider extensions beyond June 30 must make an e-mail request to the Ryerson Director of Undergraduate Admissions at xtension@ryerson.ca and receive written permission to be considered or have conditional offers of admission extended. No other form of communication will be considered or acknowledged, including fax, telephone, verbal in-person, written correspondence and/or multiple e-mail requests. The only acceptable e-mail address will be: xtension@ryerson.ca. Requests will not be reviewed or responded to until after May 15. Multiple or duplicate requests must not be sent. The applicant is to include their name, student ID/reference, program(s), and all complete details including circumstances, courses, course codes, school attending, start date, completion date, submission date of final officially certified academic transcript(s) including proof of graduation, etc.

If an extension to meet admission requirements after June 30 is granted, in writing, by the Ryerson Director of Undergraduate Admissions, it is important to note that all admission requirements must be met prior to the open enrollment period in August and start of classes in the Fall. All final officially certified academic transcripts including graduation status/proof of graduation must be submitted to Ryerson’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions prior to Orientation week/start of classes in the Fall. Students are not allowed to enroll and/or start classes with admission requirements still outstanding, and their Offer of Admission will be revoked/withdrawn. Any authorized summer school extensions will not be used in Scholarship calculations.

Extensions will not be done verbally under any circumstances, including discussions with any Ryerson officials, staff and/or faculty. Students who are granted extensions beyond June 30 are still required to submit all final, officially certified academic transcripts, including graduation status for studies completed, by and after June 30. All other Offer of Admission policies and procedures still apply, including the relevant dates for fees payments and any other submission dates.

4. Admission requirements and procedures vary with individual programs. Detailed information is sent to all Guidance Offices in Ontario high schools in October of each year for the following September. Students may also contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Ryerson for this information or visit www.ryerson.ca/ualca.
