DEPARTMENT OF POLITICS AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION; SCHOOL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The Department of Politics and Public Administration offers a range of liberal studies and professionally-related courses in political science, public administration, and non-profit and voluntary sector management to many programs at Ryerson, as well as within The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. These courses cover several subject areas: Canadian politics and government, municipal and provincial government, political theory, comparative and global politics and public administration/policy. In all cases, the department’s aim is to provide students with practical knowledge and a critical understanding of political institutions, systems and ideologies, as well as to emphasize the relevance of the emerging fora of citizen engagement. The Department of Politics and Public Administration offers a full-time degree program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Governance and a part-time program leading to a Certificate, Advanced Certificate, and Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Governance. In addition, in partnership with the Schools of Business Management and Social Work, the Department delivers an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Management through The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. The School of Criminal Justice is housed in the Department of Politics and Public Administration. The School of Criminal Justice offers a variety of professionally-related and liberal studies courses to program departments throughout Ryerson and in The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. These courses encourage students to develop a critical understanding of the criminal justice system (the police, criminal courts, and correctional system) and crime in Canada, as well as of criminal justice issues, such as criminal victimization and social inequality. The School of Criminal Justice also offers a full-time degree program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice as well as a part-time, post-diploma degree program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies (see Programs of Study, Justice Studies, in the Part-Time Undergraduate calendar).
