DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

The Department of Psychology offers a wide and dynamic selection of professionally-related and liberal studies courses in most programs at Ryerson, including The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. The Psychology curriculum covers both the established areas of the discipline such as developmental psychology, social psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, perception, behavioural disorders, gender and sexuality and specialized and emerging areas such as community psychology, health psychology, psychology and the law, psychology of sport, psychology of belief and skepticism, stress and adaptation, and the psychology of addictions. Psychology courses encompass traditional and contemporary psychological theory, critical thinking, research methodology, and recent innovations in the science of Psychology. Several courses offer hands-on data collection opportunities both in class and in laboratories. The range of courses offered in Psychology are particularly relevant to students studying in such programs as Arts and Contemporary Studies, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Journalism, Nursing, Politics and Governance, Social Work, Sociology, and in several programs within the Faculties of Communication & Design, and Engineering, Architecture and Science.

The department currently offers a full-time degree program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Psychology accessible to a wide variety of degree programs at Ryerson. A Certificate in Psychology and a Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions are offered through The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.
