RYERSON STUDENT UNION (RSU)

The Ryerson Student Union (RSU) is the students’ union for Ryerson’s full-time and graduate studies students. Its purpose is to constantly improve the campus life of all students, by making their lives safer, healthier, easier and more fun. Towards this goal, RSU offers a wide range of services and holds events and activities of both a social and educational nature.

RSU also represents the collective voice of students for both on and off campus issues as Local 24 of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). Therefore, all Ryerson full-time and graduate studies students are not only members of RSU, but are also members of the CFS - a group which provides an effective and united voice provincially and nationally, to more than 450,000 students from colleges and universities across the country.

Representatives from each faculty are elected anually during the winter term to comprise RSU’s Board of Directors. The Board formulates the organization’s policies and establishes its direction. Students also anually elect a four member Executive, comprised of a President, Vice President-Education, Vice President-Finance & Services, and Vice President-Student Life and Events. The Executive is responsible for implementing the Board’s direction, and managing its day to day operations. RyeSAC is strongly supported by a full-time staff team who ensure that students’ needs are being met.

A portion of each student’s tuition fees is automatically deducted by the university to make up the operating budget for RSU. The budget supports a wide range of free or non-profit services and events for students. RyeSAC also funds over 80 campus groups, student clubs, cultural and religious groups, Oakham House Societies, and the Course Unions for each program.

RSU is students working together. As a full-time or graduate studies student, you are a member of this students’ union - an organization that is as strong as you make it. Find out what it offers and how you can get involved by stopping by the office, or visiting www.ryesac.ca

RSU Events

RSU Events create amazing social and academic events throughout the school year for Ryerson students. All Ryerson students are encouraged to join in! From events that occur on a regular basis to special extraordinary affairs like the Annual Parade and Picnic and much more. RSU events get students out to socialize, meet new people and try new things. Events vary in style, size and type - from concerts, ski trips, speakers - there’s a little something for everyone. For up to date event listings see www.ryesac.ca

RSU Educational Issues

From raising awareness about the impact of high student debt and the need for better funding for education, to lobbying for discounted transit or rallying to reduce tuition fees, students working together do make a difference. There are many ways you can get involved - big and small. See www.ryesac.ca for the latest campaigns.
