All full-time (including international, co-op and graduate studies) students are automatically enrolled in the RSU Members’ Health and Dental Plan. This extended insurance package includes a comprehensive set of health and dental benefits that are above and beyond standard provincial health programs such as OHIP. Coverage extends from September 1st to August 31st.

The Health plan covers a range of extended benefits, including prescription drugs, nursing, orthotics, diabetic and other medical equipment, ambulance costs, ‘out-of-country’ insurance and a variety of medical services like massage therapy, chiropractic care and physiotherapy. In many cases, the plan covers only a portion of fees and costs - students should consult the official dental plan benefits guide for specific details on coverage.

The Dental plan covers a range of diagnostic, preventative, major and minor restorative, endodontic, and periodontic procedures, as well as extractions, and visits to dental specialists.

The plan only covers a portion of the approved Ontario Dental Association approved procedures rates - students should consult the official dental plan benefits guide for specific details on coverage.

Students who have an extended insurance package through an employer, spouse, parent, or other relative may opt-out of the Health and/or Dental plans and receive a full refund. To do so, an opt-out application must be filed with RSU by the status-change deadline (see below).

Returning students who already opted-out of the plan will again be automatically removed - those wishing to restore coverage may do so by again filing an application with RSU by the status change deadline (see below).

All students opting-out of the Health or Dental plan for the 2006-2007 academic year will receive a refund cheque six to eight weeks after the status-change deadline.

Students who wish to add dependents to the plans may do so by paying an additional fee. An application for dependent coverage must be submitted to Rsu by the status change deadline.

CopyRite is your one-stop campus communications centre. Come in for full service colour or black and white copies and printing, transparencies, binding, laminating, laser printing, faxing, word processing, resumes, scanning and graphic design. CopyRite has the latest equipment to serve students and the Ryerson Community even better. The professional colour imaging system features cutting-edge technology for the most accurate colour reproduction ever possible.

CopyRite’s fleet of self-serve photocopiers also offer you low-cost, convenient printing across the campus. Machines are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week: Business Building (6th Floor), International Living Learning Centre (basement), Pitman Hall Residence (main floor), Roger’s Communication Centre, Kerr Hall East, Kerr-Jorgenson South Breezeway.

The Used Book Room

At the Used Book Room, students can purchase course books at a significantly lower price than new. At the same time, students can recover some of the money they initially spent on new books when selling through the consignment policy. The Used Book Room also offers cash up front for books. The Used Book Room is located beside CopyRite, and is open throughout the school year with extended hours at the start of each term, so keep an eye out for posted times.

Ryerson Women’s Centre

The Women’s Centre is RSU’s oldest community service. Our goal is to improve through education and action, the status and condition of all women at Ryerson. We do this by providing a safe space for women on campus as well as addressing issues of concern. We also offer many important services and enjoyable events. If you are a Ryerson student interested in issues affecting women on campus, issues like violence in dating relationships, racism, eating disorders, lesbianism and bisexuality, the Women’s Centre is the place to go for more information and support. The Women’s Centre is run by a group of volunteers with assistance of a co-ordinator. Men are welcome to use the Women’s Centre resources. However, due to the sensitivity of some issues being discussed we ask that you please knock.

The Women’s Centre sponsors education campaigns, provides referral and skills training, shows films, holds discussion groups, displays information on upcoming events, maintains an up-to-date job bulletin board and has an excellent resources library stocked with books, pamphlets, files, films, reference materials, newspaper clippings, and in fact, any information for, or about or by women that we can get our hands on.

Call the Women’s Centre for more information, and look for our posters around campus to find out when weekly meetings and group discussions are held.

RyePride

RyePride is the Queer Voice of Ryerson. Our mandate is to provide a safe, open environment for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgendered and two-spirited people. RyePride’s aim is not only to provide an affirmative space in which people can make social contacts and find support, but also to ensure that this safe space extends throughout Ryerson and the greater community.

Throughout the year, RyePride organizes various events ranging from the social to the political and even a little bit of the physical such as:

• Meetings and discussions
• Queer student bar nights, and other social events
• Orientation week events
• AIDS Walk team
• Pride Week Activities

RSU’s Community Food Room

The Community Food Room is Ryerson’s local food information and access centre. Services provided by the Community Food Room include a food bank, the Good Food Box, nutritional information, referrals, cost-saving recipes, advocacy, support and understanding. We serve the whole Ryerson Community in need for food . The Community Food Room is accessible Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (summer hours may be posted).

Members of the Ryerson community can support the Community Food Room by becoming a volunteer and/or by contributing food or cash donations.

Are you working to make ends meet? Got questions or concerns about your rights on the job? RyeACCESS

RyeACCESS is for students with special needs and alternate abilities, and is modeled on the ideal of peer support, self-identification and advocacy. RyeACCESS is open to all students at Ryerson and is intended to be proactive in nature, and to strive to create a positive environment and a place where issues faced by this community can be identified, linked, and addressed.

RyeACCESS is an advocacy-based initiative, steered by a collective that has been established to operate it. The collective is open to all students, staff, faculty and concerned community members.
