Introduction to Engineering

This course provides an introduction to the engineering profession. Information on the different disciplines of engineering will be presented. Professional and ethical aspects of engineering will be discussed and the process of Professional Registration and roles and responsibilities of Professional Engineers will be introduced. Exposure to public and worker safety and the impact of engineering activities on health as well as safety standards and safety codes will be covered.

Study and analysis of the engineering profession, business corporations and organization, Tort liability and contract law, legal and ethical aspects of engineering practice, business contract law and conflict resolution, intellectual and industrial property, employment and labour law including occupational health and safety, WHMIS, corporate social responsibility, environmental considerations and sustainable development, international standards and trade.
