Cleaning

During the day porters perform spot cleaning, washroom checks, letter pick-up and project cleaning. Heavy cleaning of offices, classrooms and labs is performed at night.

Cleaning staff empty waste, sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, spray buff and auto scrub floors, refinish floors, steam clean carpets, clean blackboards and restock with chalk, spot clean walls, dust sills and ledges, clean glass doors, dust vertical surfaces, damp wipe furniture, and clean counters, sinks and fixtures.

Since 2007, all cleaning solutions used throughout the University by the Custodial Department, as well as contract cleaning companies, are dispensed through a metering system to reduce the amount of solution applied, reducing the impact on the environment. GREEN SEAL accredited cleaning solutions are used for day-to-day cleaning.

Cleaning activities are controlled and monitored using a Quality Assurance program to ensure a consistent level of custodial service is applied to all campus buildings.
