Renovation Projects
Change-of-use projects may range from reconfiguring office suites to building new labs, creating lounge areas, and replacing furniture in classrooms. Each project is assigned a project coordinator who is responsible for completing the project on time, on budget, to scope, and to the client’s satisfaction.
Proposals for change-of-use projects are received from the community annually through the Renovation Request process. As well, requests for renovations occur throughout the year as departments realize emerging needs or identify available funds.
Staff will meet with the applicant to understand the scope of the project, and provide initial estimate. If the cost range is acceptable, the scope is further developed and a detailed estimate is prepared. The project details and detailed estimate are used to obtain funding and must be in place prior to any work being done.
Once project funding has been established, then the Projects group assigns a project number, and allocates the necessary resources.
The phases of a typical project include: identification of need, feasibility study, concept design, design development, working drawings and tender documents, tender and award, construction, furniture, fittings and fixtures, IT, security devices and telecom, commissioning, and, finally, project close-out (drawings, records and manuals).
