About Ryerson

About Ryerson

Today's Ryerson

These are exciting times at Ryerson University with a growing number of students on campus each year, additional graduate studies programs, and an increasingly vibrant campus, Ryerson produces students who are ready to hit the ground running upon graduation.

Ryerson offers both professionally targeted programs - an area in which we lead among Canadian universities - and contemporary arts and science degrees. Ryerson exposes students to a broad spectrum of career focused university learning that is directly linked to developing and enhancing career skills, and producing employment ready graduates.

Ryerson is an institution driven to innovate and set the bar on standards of excellence in multi disciplinary learning in which theory is partnered with real-world application and practice recognized by business, government, and community leaders. The resulting synergy produces a stimulating academic environment where students' can achieve their full potential and practical experience.

Our Alumni & Students

With approximately 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students - including 1,600 master's and PhD students (as of fall 2007) - and over 50,000 Continuing Education students, the student population at Ryerson is constantly growing.

But Ryerson University's major uniqueness comes not from our downtown location and career-ready programming, but from our multicultural and diverse campus.

Our campus and students are a reflection of the incredible cosmopolitan mix found in Toronto. Representing various languages, ethnicities, traditions, religions, orientations, and customs found in our community, Ryerson students are the "Leaders of Tomorrow" as named by MacLeans Magazine.

Our students graduate with confidence gained from their work-study opportunities - through co-ops, exchanges, internships, placements, student-run productions, sector related projects, and fieldwork. These all provide valuable, career ready experiences - putting their studies to work in the real world before they graduate.

To date, there are over 126,000 wonderful alumni, including:

  • Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts founder Isadore Sharp;
  • Creator of successful television comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie, Zarqa Nawaz;
  • World-renowned fashion designers Lida Baday and Jeremy Laing;

  • President & CEO of Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., John Galt
