Getting Started

Logging In

  1. Head over to http://www.ryerson.ca/career/students.
    On the main page, click on the button that says "Register / login to CareerVault".

  2. Fill in the "Username" and "Password" fields [A] with your Ryerson University maxtrix ID and password.
  3. Click the "Sign In" button [B] at the bottom of the form.

You are now logged in!

Creating an Account

  1. Head over to http://www.ryerson.ca/career/students.
    On the main page, click on the button that says "Register / login to CareerVault".

  2. Click on the "Become a Member" link, located at the bottom of the login box.


  3. Fill out the new form.
    Any field with a red border must be completed. A green border indicates a required field has been filled in.


  4. Click the button at the bottom of the form.
    You will be redirected to a confirmation page if your application was successful. If your form is not completed, a popup will appear stating any fields that must be filled in before you can submit.

Your CareerVault account is now active, and you have been automatically logged out of your account for security reasons. Head back over to the login page and sign in with your Ryerson matrix ID and password to start your job search!



Searching for Jobs

Using Simple Search

Click on "Search Job Postings" in the top navigation bar to begin your job search.

The simple search looks through all the jobs posted on CareerVault and returns results based on your keywords searched.

  1. The Search Bar.
    Type your keywords here.
  2. The Submit Button.
    After typing your keywords, click this button to begin your search.
  3. Suggested Keywords.
    Click this and a list of keywords related to your faculty will pop up.

Using Advanced Search

Click on "Search Job Postings" in the top navigation bar to begin your job search.

The advanced search also looks through all the jobs posted on CareerVault and returns results based on your keywords searched, however, you are given more control on refining your searches through wildcards and operators. For advanced searching tips, click here.

  1. The Search Bar.
    Type your keywords here.
  2. Boolean Operators.
    You are not limited to using the operators located here, you can type them into the search bars as well.
  3. The Submit Button.
    After typing your keywords, click this button to begin your search.
  4. Suggested Keywords.
    Click this and a list of keywords related to your faculty will pop up.
  5. Search Tips.
    Click this for more tips on how to do a proper advanced search.

Browsing Posted Jobs

Click on "Search Job Postings" in the top navigation bar to begin your job search.

The posted jobs page lists all the job opportunities available on CareerVault and provides a number of ways to help you refine your search.

  1. Posted Jobs Per Program.
    Select this option to show only jobs that are looking for applicants from your program.
  2. All Posted Jobs.
    Select this to show all jobs available on CareerVault.
  3. Job Type Filter.
    Use this option to select the type of job you are looking for (Full-time, Part-time, Summer, Volunteer, etc.).
  4. Job Location Filter.
    Type in the city, province, or country you are looking for jobs in.
  5. Reset Button.
    Click this button to reset all filters you have put in (job type, job location).
  6. Apply Filters Button.
    Click this button to apply all filters you have put in (job type, job location).
  7. Page Forwards/Backwards Buttons.
    If there is more than one page of results, use these buttons to navigate through the job postings.


Keywords

Saving Keywords

Make your future searches easier by saving your keywords. Every time you perform a simple search or an advanced search, you are given the option to save the keywords you just searched.

On the results page, just click the "Save This Keyword" button.

You can save up to 7 sets of keywords, and whenever a new job containing any of your saved keywords is posted you will receive an email notification.

Manage and use your saved keywords by clicking on "My Saved Keywords" on the top navigation bar.

Using Saved Keywords

On the "My Saved Keywords" page, click the green arrow button [] next to the keywords you want to search with.

Deleting Saved Keywords

On the "My Saved Keywords" page, check the box next to the keywords you want to delete.

Then click the button.



Jobs

Viewing Job Information

After searching for jobs and finding one that you like, you can click on its name to see more details.

On the job's information page you can see all the details of the job, including the description, contact information, and more.

From this page you can also choose to apply to the job, or bookmark it to view it later.

  1. Job Information.
    This part contains the details to the job you have selected.
  2. Upload Resume section.
    If you want to apply to the job, attach your resume here.
  3. Apply For Job button.
    After uploading your resume, click this button to send your application.
  4. Bookmark This Job button.
    Save this job to you account. You can view the details of this job again later.

Managing Your Jobs

Click on "Access my Jobs" in the top navigation bar to begin.

You are given three options to browse through.

  • Jobs I Applied For: See the jobs that you have applied for through CareerVault.
  • Bookmarked Jobs: See the jobs you have bookmarked earlier. You can delete jobs off this list by clicking the "Yes" button under the "Remove job from list" heading.
  • Jobs Matching Saved Keywords: See a list of jobs that matched your saved keywords.


Appointments

Booking Appointments

You can book an appointment with a Career and Employability Support Counsellor by clicking the "Book Appointment" link in the side bar.

In the drop down menu, select the type of appointment you would like to book, and then click on an available time in the calendar. Fill in and submit the following form.

Your appointment will show up in your calendar on CareerVault!

  1. Viewing options.
    These options will let you view available appointments by day, week, or in a list.
  2. Date Selection.
    Select the day you would like to view available appointments for.
  3. Appointments Calendar.
    The calendar shows whether a counsellor is available or not for an appointment.

Managing Your Appointments

CareerVault can be used to manage appointments and workshops you have signed up for.

Click on "My Profile" on the top navigation bar and then click on "My Calendar" to see your appointments.

On this page you can un-register your activities by checking the box next to it and clicking the "Un-Register" button.

  1. Year select.
    View appointments made in previous years.
  2. Appointments information.
    Shows a list of the workshops and appointments you have registered for, as well as their details.
  3. Unregister button.
    Check off an event and click this button to unregister from it.
