Your Responsibilities When You Have an Accident
- Promptly receive first aid.
- Notify your supervisor immediately of any injury, including injuries which do not require medical attention or lost time.
- Choose a doctor or other qualified practitioner.
- Complete and promptly return all report forms received from the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.
- In the case of a lost time injury, keep your supervisor updated as to your progress and advise him/her as soon as possible when you are medically fit to return to regular or modified work.
Your Supervisor's Responsibilities When You Have an Accident
- Go to the scene immediately
- Ensure appropriate first aid / medical aid is received, if necessary
- Arrange and pay for transportation to medical care, if needed
- Control potential secondary accidents
- Secure the accident site for a critical incident/injury -- DEFINED
- Promptly investigate the accident or near-miss incident to determine the causes
- Take appropriate corrective action to prevent a recurrence
- Document the actions taken at the time, the investigation and any corrective actions either taken or required
- Fill in and send the appropriate completed Internal Incident (AIE) Report to the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Security within 24 hours or as soon as you are aware of the incident
- Fill in and send the appropriate completed Employer's Report of Injury/Disease to Human resources within 24 hours or as soon as you are aware of the incident
