- Assisting the department head in
fulfilling the intent of the
University EHS
System Policy, related
policies, guidelines and supporting programs.
- Ensuring that the EHS concerns of staff
and faculty within the department are
addressed by referral to the relevant
supervisor, or the department head.
- Conduct routine, documented inspections of
all areas within the department.
- Assist supervisors in investigating accidents
/ incidents / exposures and confirm
that the appropriate forms have
been completed and departments
notified.
- Respond to reports of unsafe
conditions by investigating and
reporting to the department head.
- Advise the department head, or in their
absence, Security and
the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Security (DEHSS),
of any critical
injuries and/or critical unsafe conditions
or refusals
to work.
- Act as primary EHS resource to the
Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Security, the Joint
Occupational Health & Safety Committee and
the department.
- Serve as the departmental First-Aider by providing emergency first aid and maintaining all first aid boxes and records. The first-aider must have a valid first aid certificate. The first aider must be re-certified every 2 years to be a qualified first-aider.
