Background:
A Regional Inter University Student Conference on Human Factors and Ergonomics beung hosted this year at University at Buffalo.

For the past eight years, students from UB and other universities including the University of Waterloo, the University of Toronto, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Guelph have gathered to present their research, in an informal student conference.

The conference is a daylong event and provides opportunities for students to network, explore and share research interests. In addition to the students' research presentations, we have special keynote sessions, where speakers from industries and/or academia describe their work in Human Factors and/or describe how Human Factors is used in their work system. Topics covered can be as varied as human factor and ergonomics in general, but also human computer interaction, cognitive psychology, cognitive science, biomechanics, musculoskeletal disorders/injuries, injury prevention, technology design, universal design, etc.

This year, the University at Buffalo is hosting the Ninth Annual Human Factors Inter-University Workshop on October 18, 2008. Please mark your calendar if you plan to attend this event. The conference will have two reputed keynote speakers Mihriban Whitmore from NASA and Stanley Caplan from Usability Associates.

Students who wish to attend the event should confirm their interest by e-mail at students-hfes@buffalo.edu <mailto:students-hfes@buffalo.edu>.
In addition, students who wish to present a paper are requested to submit an abstract of their work (research, work in progress, etc.). Each abstract will be assigned a 15 minutes presentation at the conference.

Abstracts are due October 1, 2008.

This year, the organizers are trying to expand the scope of the conference and will also be accepting short papers. The aim is to provide a brief conference proceeding to help maintain a record of work carried out as well as facilitate future affiliations and encourage collaborative work. The papers will be 3-5 pages in a format similar to ISOES conference (isoes.info/papersubmission.htm. They will be peer reviewed and published in the conference proceedings. Reviewers are expected to send in comments and suggestions to improve the papers, but all will not influence the acceptance of the papers. To ensure the papers are reviewed thoroughly the date for paper submissions is September 1, 2008.

Further information will be posted soon on the workshop's website:
