Co-operative Education
Welcome
Ryerson University offers co-operative education in the disciplines of Biology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Contemporary Science, Information Technology Management, Medical Physics, Occupational Health and Safety, and Public Health and Safety.
Co-operative education integrates academic studies with paid, career-related work experience with relevant companies and agencies. Among many benefits, co-operative education gives students the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience, to earn competitive salaries that partially offset the cost of their education, and to help clarify career objectives. The co-op experience also serves to enhance opportunities for full-time employment upon graduation.
Co-operative Education as defined by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE) was established at Ryerson in 1991 by professors emeriti Dr. John W. Easton and W. J. (Bill) Cott in the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and Biology programs. In 1997, following the success of co-operative education in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and Biology, the Office of Co-operative Education was established in its current location under the direction of Dr. Easton to coordinate the expanding co-op activities in a number of departments at Ryerson.
Today, the Office of Co-operative Education operates within the Ryerson Office of Experiential Learning and administers co-op for 9 academic programs. The office is the contact point for employers, students, and Ryerson academic departments, facilitating relevant employment opportunities for co-op students. The Office is located at 101 Gerrard Street East, at the intersection of Gerrard and Mutual Streets.
Ryerson's Office of Co-operative Education is a member of Education at Work Ontarioand the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education.
