Co-operative Education

The BSc in Mathematics & Its Applications shares a common first year with the BSc programs in Biology, Contemporary Science, Chemistry, and Medical Physics. This program takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of mathematics. In addition to a core mathematics curriculum, students get opportunities to combine mathematics with courses in Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Finance and Physics. Students can also pursue an option in Management Science.
Mathematics and Its Applications includes some of the following topics of study:
Computer Security; Financial Mathematics
Applied Statistics; Biomathematics
Software Testing
Graph Theory
Fluid Mechanics; Differential Equations and Operator Theory
First & second year courses include:

The co-op experience includes five, four-month work terms in organizations in Ontario, Canada, and potentially abroad. To get the co-op designation students must successfully complete four of the five work terms. The first work term begins in the summer following 2nd year studies.
Mathematics co-op students are expected to work in a variety of roles in fields such as finance, computer security, and research to name a few. Mathematics graduates work for industry, business and governments, where they are involved in a wide variety of tasks such as biological and environmental studies, market research, software development, statistical analysis, market analysis, and others.
Co-op students should be open to relocating to improve their chances of finding work, as good job opportunities are often available in cities outside the greater Toronto area.
