General information on the Co-op Hiring Process
Ryerson Co-op uses a continuous hiring process where jobs are posted on first-come, first-served basis until all students are hired. There is no rank/match process.
Our system is similar to a real-world employment process with some differences that allow employers some assurance that the students they select are committed to working with them, and allows as many students as possible to find employment.
Although the Co-op Office works on a first-come, first-served basis we encourage employers to begin the hiring process 3 - 4 months in advance of the start of employment to attract the most qualified students and a larger pool of applicants.
For jobs that start in January (winter), postings should be submitted to the Co-op Office the previous September; for jobs starting in May (summer), postings should be submitted in January; and for jobs beginning in September (fall) postings should be submitted in May.

Steps in the Hiring Process
(The steps below may take 2 - 4 weeks depending on the employer)
|
Job descriptions are submitted by employers via e-mail and posted for students to apply. |
Student applications (cover letter, resume & grade report) are sent to employers to be pre-screened for interviews. |
|
Employers review the applications and decide which students they would like to interview. |
Employers notify the Co-op Office of the students they wish to hire and the Co-op Office relays the offers to the students. |
