Application services provides the development and support of applications and system architecture at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) to meet the diverse needs of the academic and administrative community of the University. There are five groups that make up the Application Services team:

  • Application Development & Support
  • Application Infrastructure
  • HR Systems
  • Financial Systems
  • Student Information Systems

Application Infrastructure team develops, builds and supports applications and services that connects with various systems within Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Our applications integrate data among different sources, manage TMU users online identity and resources and provide convenient and collaborative tools for academic and administrative tasks.

We support various systems including Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), TMU Single Sign-on solution Central Authentication Service (CAS), my.torontomu.ca portal, Google Workspace at TMU, Confluence, JIRA, and Spark.

We also have a software development team with expertise in Java, Spring Framework, Web Services, and other technologies, and are continuously developing and building identity and resource management system called Toronto Metropolitan University Management System (RMS), and many other systems and applications.

The Application Development and Support unit in CCS provides custom software development services and third-party application support to Administrative and Academic units throughout the University. Our goal is to assist staff and faculty in improving their business processes through the use of online technologies; whether it be building simple online forms or the implementation of complex line-of-business solutions.

We work closely with clients to understand their requirements and recommend cost-effective solutions, which may include evaluation and selection of commercial, off-the-shelf systems or designing custom applications.

Our services include:

  • Custom development of web-based applications, using Java EE and Adobe Coldfusion, encompassing all aspects of the development lifecycle - analysis, design, coding, testing and maintenance.
  • Mobile application development using Android or iOS
  • Toronto Metropolitan University mobile applications
  • Third-party application support, including installation configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and liaising with vendors to resolve technical issues
  • Hosting of Coldfusion and Java EE applications in secure environments
  • Support of Point of Sale (POS) terminals, One Card terminals, XM Fax
  • System integration

The HR Systems team provides TMU HR department with technical assistance and support for the PeopleSoft HR system. The system includes Workforce Administration, Payroll, Benefits, Employee and Manager Self Service, Time and Labour, Absence Management and Recruiting. The team performs technical analysis and development for application enhancements and fixes, maintenance packs and upgrades. The team works closely with HR business analysis and development team and CCS Database and ERP Administration team to ensure that PeopleSoft HR application satisfies TMU specific requirements and underlying technology and application is kept up to date.

We work closely with the Financial Services Systems and Training Team to provide systems services for Financial Services in support of the Oracle E-Business Suite and Markview (RUFIS) and other financial related systems.

TMU’s Student Information System group provides support and maintenance for and enhancements to the University’s implementation of Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student information system, known as TMU Administrative Management Self Service (MyServiceHub).

MyServiceHub is the official repository of all student and faculty academic information for the University. It is a web-based system accessed through the my.torontomu portal and supports the critical academic functions including undergraduate and graduate admissions, student and faculty timetabling, enrollment and records maintenance for undergraduate, graduate and Chang School continuing education students, fees and payment processing for all students, academic advising, degree audit and transfer credit processing, and graduation processing.

The Student Information System group works closely with the TMU Registrar’s Office and provides support to all academic departments and supplies information to many other TMU administrative departments and outside agencies.
