Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting those who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health.

The scholarships are administered by Canada’s three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program in detail  (external link)

$50,000 per year for up to three years

Internal application deadline: TBD for 2024

Note: This is the internal deadline for candidates to submit their complete application packages (including transcripts and references).

Interested students must complete and submit their electronic application package through the ResearchNetonline (external link)  application and nomination e-approval system by the internal deadline stated above.

Please coordinate with your Program Administrator to have your transcripts sent to the Coordinator, Graduate Scholarships and Awards in Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies by the deadline.

Once the applications have been verified, there is an internal-candidate selection process. Internal Vanier committees (SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR) will select the nominations to go forward to the appropriate federal granting agencies.

The granting agencies then perform their selection process, present their recommendations to the Vanier Board and the Board endorses the recommended nominees. Then a separate Vanier Steering Committee makes the final decisions for funding.

Successful candidates and TMU are notified of the competition results in April 2024.
