Transitions are a time for both self-reflection and action. Here are 10 tips from the Career Centre to guide this process and maintain motivation, patience, mental and physical wellbeing while building a career.

1. Maintain a positive attitude: Job searching takes work. Maintaining a positive attitude means taking a break and managing expectations. Meeting with a career consultant can help clear any cobwebs and help with next steps.

2. Network: Don’t limit yourself! Use Twitter or LinkedIn accounts to make connections with others based on interests, attend events and stay engaged will help keep networks active.

3. Stay physically active: Take frequent breaks to get outside and move around. When you return to the task, you’ll feel refreshed, focused and approach your tasks with a new perspective.

4. Reflect and learn from experiences: There is a lot of information to absorb when job searching. Take the time to reflect on what you learn, hear, see and do. All activities play an important part in building yourself personally and professionally.

5. Stay up-to-date: Stay current with what is going on in your industry while in university and after graduation.

6. Pursue interests: As you pursue your interests, you may find employment and volunteer opportunities that reflect your passions.

7. Note transferable skills: When researching positions, consider how your skills fit the job description and requirements.
