The challenges facing Ontario are more complex than ever, from disruptive technologies and artificial intelligence to demographic shifts and climate change. These challenges not only require new approaches, they also create opportunities to learn, grow and employ talent and resources. And universities will be at the epicentre of this change.

To meet the challenge, Ontario’s 21 universities are engaged in a province-wide conversation to generate and gather ideas on Ontario’s future. Over the balance of this academic year, the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) and its member institutions are hosting a series of events across the province such as roundtable discussions, online chats and conferences to spark a conversation about how universities can help build a better Ontario.

The public and members of the Ryerson community are invited to take an online survey (external link, opens in new window)  to provide input on their hopes and concerns about the future. The survey probes such things as what’s needed to prepare students for success, and what university research and the expansion of human knowledge and invention can do to help contribute to the success of communities.

“I invite everyone who shares an interest in the future of this great city and innovative province to join the conversation about how Ontario universities can create a brighter future for our students, our communities and all Ontarians,” said Ryerson President Mohamed Lachemi.

Please take five minutes to complete the COU survey (external link, opens in new window)  and share your thoughts on this important topic. Community members can also email input to insights@ontariosuniversites.ca (opens in new window) .

The insights gathered by the COU throughout this process will be distilled and reported back to the public through a series of online postings, blogs and reports, culminating in a conference later this year on Ontario’s future and how universities can help Ontarians succeed.
