FACULTY SPEAKERS

 

Fall 2011 Faculty Speaker

Neil Wolff

Wolff is an assistant professor of entrepreneurship and strategy in the Ted Rogers School of Business
Management. He is a mentor to young, emerging entrepreneurs and a frequent conference speaker and media commentator on entrepreneurial opportunities and issues related to innovation and entrepreneurship

Dr. Wolff will be speaking at the Convocation on October 19 at 2:30 p.m.

 

Spring 2011 Faculty Speaker


Malgorzata (Gosha) Zywno

Malgorzata (Gosha) Zywno, PhD, P.Eng, F.E.C., is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and a Faculty Associate for the Learning and Teaching Office. Gosha has taught at Ryerson since 1982. She is a motivational teacher with a focus on students and their learning, and a champion of active learning techniques for teaching large classes, including innovative uses of technology to engage students.

Dr. Zywno will be speaking at the Convocation on June 8 at 2:30 p.m.


Janice Waddell

Dr. Janice Waddell is currently Associate Dean, Faculty of Community Services at Ryerson University and Associate Professor of the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing. In these roles, as well as her past role as Associate Director of the Ryerson, Centennial, George Brown Collaborative Nursing Degree Program, she has been responsible for leading curriculum development, coaching and mentoring faculty colleagues and providing guidance and support to students.

Dr. Waddell will be speaking at the Convocation on June 10 at 2:30 p.m.

 


Brian Damude

Brian has over twenty-five years experience as a filmmaker, working in both film and television as a writer, producer, director, editor and actor. His experience, two years training at the National Film Board and his passion for acting and directing led to the development of the third year joint Film/Theatre project and several courses in Directing Screen Performance. He has also created new courses in Advanced Cinematography and Lighting, Screenwriting and Production. During his ten years as Chair of the School of image Arts his personal creative work included fine art photography, exhibiting frequently in a variety of Toronto venues.

Brian will be speaking at the Convocation on June 13 at 2:30 p.m.


David Schlanger

A tenured business faculty member since 1984, David Schlanger has taught and developed courses in entrepreneurship, strategic management, managerial economics and quantitative methods. Recipient of a Ryerson teaching award early in his career, David was also a 2010 Top 20 finalist in TVO’s Ontario’s Best Lecturer competition. In 2008, Professor Schlanger became Director, Office of Student Achievement in TRSBM and began teaching BUS100: Strategies for Success emphasizing student self-discovery, engagement, and self-authorship, inspiring David’s current passion for studying the science of positive psychology and its impact on personal and business success. 

David will be speaking at the Convocation on June 16 at 2:30 p.m.



Elizabeth Evans

In September 2004 Elizabeth joined Ryerson University as both Director, Ted Rogers School of Retail Management and as an Associate Professor. After a diverse career in retail management and industry consulting she brought her experiences and passion for this dynamic field to the academic environment. The opportunity to build the retail management degree program at Ryerson University has been extremely rewarding, particularly to prepare students for leadership roles in this dynamic field. Elizabeth’s teaching has focused on Issues and Innovations in Retailing, Sustainability in Retail and the study of Design, Commerce and Culture.

Elizabeth will be speaking at the Convocation on June 17 at 9:30 a.m.

 

 


Alan Sears

Alan received this year’s President’s Award for Teaching Excellence, the sixth such award over his career, in recognition of these innovative courses to help students with their transition into university, as well as other aspects of his teaching. He forms positive learning relationships with students grounded in respect for their voices and interest in their experiences. He is also a leader in this learning community, holding teaching leadership positions (Teaching Associate and Teaching Chair) since coming to Ryerson in 2005. In these roles he has developed workshops for faculty, particularly in the area of experiential and service learning, and consulted individually with faculty members about teaching issues. He also contributed to the development of the Arts Teaching Assistant Development Program.

Dr. Sears will be speaking at the Convocation on June 17 at 2:30 p.m.
