FACULTY SPEAKERS

To be invited to deliver a Convocation address to a graduating class is both an honour and a daunting task. Faculty speakers are chosen because they are leaders in their field. Whether they come from within Ryerson's own ranks or from the community at large, their speeches are sure to arouse students with parting words of wisdom and inspiration.

Fall 2012 Faculty Speakers

Pat Sniderman
Professor, Human Resources Management in the Ted Rogers School of Business Management

Pat Sniderman is a professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management in the Ted Rogers School of Management. Pat is an award winning instructor and has been a leader in promoting effective learning and teaching at Ryerson. She is the lead author of the textbook, Managing Organizational Behaviour in Canada. Professor Sniderman has also consulted to a large number of organizations in the areas of team building, interpersonal communication, organization development and facilitation

Professor Sniderman will be speaking at a Ted Rogers School of Management ceremony on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.


 

Frankie Stewart
Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Recipient of the President’s Award of Teaching Excellence

Professor Stewart has been a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University for over 28 years. Frankie is remembered by her students for her enthusiasm, passion, empathy, flexibility as well as her engaging and motivating manner. Her students acknowledge her ability to create an engaging and stimulating learning environment as well as her willingness to go the extra mile to ensure her students fully understand the material.

Professor Stewart will be speaking at a Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science and Faculty of Science ceremony on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 2:30 p.m.

 

Spring 2012 Faculty Speakers

Debra Pepler

Professor Debra Pepler is a distinguished researcher in the Psychology Department in the Faculty of Health at York University, Toronto. Her research has changed the way we think about bullying, aggression and other forms of violence, especially among marginalized and alienated young people. She speaks widely to professional and community audiences about children at risk.


Gilles Julien

Dr. Julien is a Social pediatrician devoted to helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities explore and develop their potential. This visionary leader created a preventive approach, community-oriented social pediatrics, which ensures that all fundamental child rights are upheld, in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.



Ravi Ravindran

Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and recipient of the Chancellor's Award of Distinction is a distinguished teacher and an exemplar in teaching and leadership in engineering education. Ravi's passion for teaching is reflected by his effervescent enthusiasm and extraordinary ability to motivate and energize his students. He is a unique and accomplished leader and role model in education advancing teaching and learning at Ryerson community and worldwide.

 

Marie Bountrogianni

Dr. Marie Bountrogianni is a distinguished visiting scholar at The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. She was the former President and Executive Director of the Royal Ontario Museum Governors and has served as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs for Ontario, Minister, Democratic Renewal, Minister of Children and Youth Services and Minister of Citizenship and Immigration for Ontario.
