Course Properties & Teaching Style

Sections of this Page:

Course Properties

The Properties page allows the Instructor to manage the logistics, availability, and accessibility of a course and course contents. Most importantly, this page contains the Course Name and the Availability settings.

These settings can be found in: Control Panel > Customization > Properties

  1. Go to: Control Panel > Customization > Properties
  2. Course Name & Description - The course name is what is displayed in the list of courses for a user, as well as at the beginning of the breadcrumb at the top of the screen. It is best to keep this short and close to the name as it appears in the course catalog. It is best to leave the Description empty, as it is not used at Ryerson.
  3. Set Availability - When a course shell is first created, it is Unavailable to student users. Instructors must change the setting so make it available to the students, once they are ready. The course admins (Instructor, TA, etc.) are able to access the course shell when it is unavailable.
  4. Duration - In general, it is best to leave this set to Continuous. If you choose to use Select Dates, please note that students will see the course listed even when the course shell is not available to them (but will only be able to actually access the course shell between the specified start and end dates).
  5. Click Submit to save the changes.

(any of the areas not included in the instructions are not used at Ryerson)

Course Style

The Style page is used to set the look and feel of the course shell (menu style and colours, etc.) as well as set the course entry point and banner.
